Right, I showed SS2 to some... "holiday gamers" and it was "too complicated" for them. These mainstream dudes can't appreciate true masterpiece!

My friend absolutely hates the game cause he thinks the graphics suck and that the monkeys are "cheap and stupid" and the story is retarded. He hasn't given me any other reason why he hates the game. Maybe he sucks at it and doesn't have the patience to understand the story?
I'm kinda surprised since he seems to like Deus Ex and Thief...

Hmm. Since Deus Ex is sort of SS2's spiritual successor, in the area of gameplay and interface, I would understand SS2 looks "obsolete" for some people who never played Shocks before Deus Ex. However he seems to be a newbie gamer, isn't he.

SS2's interface really isn't any less advanced than DX's. Maybe people have an easier time with it because it makes more extensive use of labeled buttons instead of icons.

He isn't a newbie gamer, hes just incredibly biased. He compares games to deus ex and since SS2 doesn't have all the features in it, he doesn't like it. He does it with a bunch of other games and genres and it shows that he is incredibly closed minded.

Well, then explain him that if there was no SS2, there would be no Deus Ex, or it wouldn't be so good.

I suppose that's at least better than hating other games because "YUO CANT EXPLODARIZE THINGS LIEK IN QUACK!!!"

Deus Ex is influenced by pretty much every LGS first-person game short of Terra Nova.
Edit: Combined and deleted second post.

yep. He tends to ignore me and just says that SS2 is pure crap.

I've tried to get a few ppl I know to play ss. All of them so far have played 1 level and then given up saying they either lost interest or didn't understand what they had to do. To me this means lazy + inappropriate genre for them. However I can see a lot of ppl falling into this category. I guess shock truly is a niche game.
