MY FIRST ROTTEN DEAD POOL CATCH OF DA YEAR
grrrr
last year I accidentilly started a game with no picks, and half the people I would have picked ended up dieing. Damn!
This year I hope to beat my first game (4 deaths - not too shabby). Unfortunately Irwin isn't on my list.

Like everyone else... I also expected him to die a very horrible death with each episode. But it's sad to see him go.
R.I.P. You crazy Aussie.

The sheer number of people I've heard talking about him outside today was incredible. He's a legend, it seems.
I should also point out that this death wasn't exactly as much of a "he ran around with wild animals, he was bound to be killed" as it seems, considering how seriously rare it is to die by stingray. It was just blind, dumb luck (or unluck, whatever) that this one got him right in the heart. If it was a snake bite or croc to the head, fine, but this seems far too much like a Formula 1 racer dying by getting hit crossing the street by a Honda Civic...
Umm, yeah, RIP :(

Yeah, it's testimony to the guy that I had about 5 people tell me about the unfortunate event before 8:30am. I was saddened but not entirely unsurprised to hear it on the radio at 7.
The world needs more guys like Steve Irwin, and less people with pens.

Steve Irwin was a good man. He didn't deserve death so early. I began watching him more or less as soon as he got put on American TV. I was around 9 years old at the time. I quite literally grew up watching him. I loved his show, the way he dealt with the animals, how he had no qualms in showing the world that animals just aren't bad. If it was possible, Steve would probably have followed up with a documentary on how stingrays are mild-mannered creatures who just need their space.
For an animal lover such as myself who grew up watching the Crocodile Hunter (and hated pretty much every other naturalist except Jeff Corwin and sometimes that Nigil bloke), this is really unbelievable. Who'd have thougt he'd really, actually die?
I only hope that when I'm in my thirties, I'll be flipping lazily through the channels and suddenly see a crazy Australian kid jumping on crocs, yelling, "Crikey!" and calling himself the new Crocodile Hunter. Little Bob has some big shoes to fill and he won't have his father to help him get into them, either.

I can't believe he got done by a stingray. If he wasn't, he now is a legend. During his shows..I liked the tension/apprehension caused by the fact that there was always a chance that he could get taken down by a croc, fanged in the crotch or have a hand bitten off all the while appreciating his commentary on conservation. I think thats why I always watched him..hah I can see why Richard Attenborough sticks to birds and small fish.l

Richard Attenborough
Sir Richard is the Oscar-winning director. It's his brother Sir David who is the naturalist.
