He will be missed for the passion he had for animals in general.
RIP Steve.

Sorry to see Steve go. :( He was one of the few Australian celebrities who didn't go around starting fights/abusing cops/having threesomes without his wife's knowledge/etc we have.

What?
Are you for real? There is a massive array of Australian celebrities who conduct themselves far better than Irwin ever did. As far as sports go (considering they are pretty much the highest celebrities over here) there are a ton of people like Pat Rafter, John Eales, Liz Ellis, and Grant Hackett...

Steve Irwin wasn't just a crazy thrill seeker; he was a die-hard conservationist and naturalist and I respected him for that. He always had a serious message mixed in with his hijinks during his 'Crocodile Hunter' episodes. The man had a passion and used that passion and enthusiasm to promote environmentalism.
I understand well the phrase, 'He died doing what he loved to do'.
My heart breaks for his wife and children.
R.I.P. Steve.

I've heard his wife right at this moment does not know yet he's dead, as she is trekking through the australian wilderness...
had mixed feelings about the guy. He was stark raving mad and the way he wrestled with wild animals felt to me like pointless animal bullying just for tv entertaintment. But he certainly contributed to wildlife preservation.
I expected him to be lynched by koala's, rather than killed by a bloody stingray. Blooy buggers, they are.

The news article I read stated that Terry had been informed and had already told the kids. I can't imagine what they are going through right now.
The news article also stated that the stinger penetrated under his rib cage into his heart, so it was very quick for him.
He will be missed.

I used to watch Steve's show. I knew that it would end this way. It is a tragedy.
RIP.

IIRC the late, great Fluke lived next door to Steve Irwin and his zoo for a while.
