(
http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,20349892-952,00.html) The Crocodile Man, Steve Irwin, is dead.
He was killed by a sting-ray off the coast of Cairns while filming an underwater documentary.
His visage is very common around these parts, on billboards and the like advertising his zoo. Can't say I'm a fan, but sad news nonetheless, he was an animated presenter, risky daredevil and he died doing what he loved.
Tragic, but not unexpected it must be said.

Not unexpected in the LEAST. This is what happens to people who have no concept of fear.
To be perfectly honest, I expected him to get killed when his wife wanged his skull off a tree at 40 mph when he was hanging out of the Land Rover. Indestructable motherfucker.
Ah well. Steve Irwin will always live on as one of the weirdest cultural phenomena of the last fifteen years.
How do I poked stingray? :(

Odd. I saw him on TV a few times doing crazy things - the fact that he survived kind of led me to believe that either A. It was staged, or B. he was magically invincible. The fact the he died...wow.

I didn't tend to watch his shows very often myself, but he's done a lot for wildlife in general and has done much to preserve and promote our natural assets in Oz. A sad loss really.

A damn shame, I had my money on a gardening accident.

Still, if you're gonna go, that's a great headline... "Killed by stingray". Better than a boring old heart attack, at least.

Well he was a charming lad, I hope he had a quick 'un. Sometimes you die weeks after getting stung by slow internal necrosis.

FFS, I just read this online and had been here not too long ago and I assumed nobody else had posted about it yet, I was going to make a thread with exactly the same title too
This made me sad to see, I watch alot of the history channel/discovery/animal planet and I've seen alot of his shows, he seemed like a good guy and gave alot of entertainment and education to alot of people, he will be missed.

l've only seen a few- a very few- brief snippets of the guy but he seemed pretty harmless. why does everyone hate him so much?

i liked that guy, funny man.
rip.
btw, if this turn out to be ANOTHER rumor, i will hunt down and set fire to whomever started it.
