I find some strange things about the crew on the Von Braun and all the ships in SS2. They all died. As far as I know there is a guy banging at a window and a guy running to his death; and whats her name Dr. Polito
Anyways I was thinking, isn't the crew "trained" for this. I mean your this lowly cadet in space with generals, marines, etc. and your the ONLY survivor.
There has to be more to this. I mean if you put a uncountable amount of marines, technological guys, plumbers, psi guys, robots, computers, cyber modules, a shat load of primary pistol bullets, weapons, bio quantum reconstructors, needles that make you go crazy, Gnarls Barkley, and another few million other things.
I don't understand! There is no spoon! Ahhh! Well atleast there human remains became something... Err... The Many?
Your thoughts please.

The Von Braun is a civilian vessel. The scientists, just like those in Half Life, were toast the moment they set foot on the ship.
Now the Rickenbacker, that's another story. Once the Many took control of the Von Braun it was too late for the small military detachment to have any influence. They just didn't have the resources necessary to fight the infection. Short of a nuke (cue the Aliens reference), there's nothing they could do.

That and let's not forget The Many's mind controlling abilities. They spread without anyone even knowing about it until it was too late. All they had to do was turn the head of the top military people and they got the grasp on all of Von Braun's defenses.

Oh yeah, that too, they didn't even have to look for them. Brilliant idea to send the two COs investigate together an unknown life form on uncharted planet surface without proper decontamination procedures... :nono:

Welcome to the wonderful world of film/scifi/video game plots! Also featuring such classics as "Why doesn't the bad guy just
think the protagonist(s) out of existence when he/she/it becomes omnipotent?" and "Why do arch-villains gloat and explain their plans to the captive secret agent, then send him off to another room to be killed by henchmen?".

I can't really explain the state of the Rickenbacker... Which really is something of a let down. It being meant to be full of gun-toting "look through the sights and shoot!" UNN soldiers.
All those marines with big f*ck off assault rifles and fusion cannons and the it seems like the retched things just strolled in...
Anyway, the Von Braun is a bit more explainable.
As someone said earlier I think, the Many started off by converting both Captains.
Despite the physical effects from being converted by the Annelids, no-one really noticed anything was wrong.
Well... They did. But nothing tragic. Listen to the logs, like that fellow in Med/Sci when the VB captain tells him to mind his own business and he just leaves it. Or the lady who was in charge of all the female nurses who got turned into the Cyborg Midwives.
Those who did suspect something was wrong were stopped from doing anything about it because most of the senior staff were converted, and stopped them. Always respect the chain of command and all that.
Delacioux does mention trying to get the VB captain (can't spell his name) removed for being unfit for duty. However, she knows if she did try, Diego and his UNN soliders would walk right over them. So she finds herself unable to do anything, despite her concerns.
Also, those who are converted don't notice anything is wrong with them. They don't feel... Wrong. If that makes sense. They still feel perfectly rational, and it's the crew that arn't infected with an annelid that are wrong.
Look at the logs again, that strange hacker chap from ops, Norris from command. While they do comment on the change, they don't see anything wrong with their new way of thinking... They feel it's made them better people.
Both captains use their executive powers to seal of Deck 3 and use it to breed annelids, as well as convert certain officers when they send them down one by one.
Turning the VB's crew from the top-down.
Most of the un-infected crew is quite happy trying to keep the ship running, and only a few do have explicit fears and suspicious about anything strange going on. In fact, those crew who do think there is something up are viewed as a bit mad by those that don't.
Bronson for instance. Lots of people think she's crazy! Even when the s*it is hitting the fan!
When the Many do make a move to take control of the ship, I think what happened was there was a breakdown in communication. And lots of confusion.
The command staff are almost all converted to the many and are restricting information about what's really going on, XERXES has just gone on the fritz. People don't haven't got a clue what's going on.
The power goes off, the security system goes haywire, there are creatures pouring out of Hydroponics and taking the rest of the ship...
I feel the main problem with how the crew got wiped out is isolation. Any non-infected crew are spaced around in small groups that are easily overwhelmed by the Annelids.
People wonder off on their own and get killed trying to fix something, or they barricade themselves somewhere only to be overrun later.
They -do- try and fight. As seen in Recreation and a log from a dead crewmember in command.
But especially with Bronson and her security team. She responds with full force and it seems as though everything might just be okay... Her men almost -almost- manage to make ops safe.
Then I assume Diego and his marines roll right over her and her rent-a-cops.
The Many and their pawns prooved to be very effective at stopping any sort of successive organised resistance being formed. They keep the survivors isolated and constantly harrassed, forcing them into hiding. Only to run out of ammuntion for defective guns and end up getting eaten by some great big gribbly monster.
Or something like that anyway... :nono:
