We've had similar problems in the past. And if what you're saying about the album having its own "sound" is true, that's only because we just played together a lot until it sort of developed itself. It's changing still, which is pretty exciting; I have high hopes for this group, even if I know we aren't nearly there yet. Recognizing that it takes a fuckload of time and more hard work than we're currently putting in is a bit of a comfort.
I'm a bit curious as to what, if anything specifically, you guys find overwritten about the album. When you said it I though "oh yeah I can see it" but there's no one one thing I can pinpoint as an example. Truth be told I love these songs and their intricacies.

I can't comment with any real musicological wherewithall, but 'overwritten' was the term that sprang to mind for me too. I don't think it's really fair though. Or really explains what I'm thinking.
I usually find with this genre is that it is heavy on structure, with lots of tempo changes and things. (I've been dealing with hardcore bands a bit lately and I find that has the same problem for me, which is funny). But that's the game, so I can't really blame you there if it's what you like. I guess my first instinct is to say things like "gah, stick with that bit I liked. Be more straight pop, dammit.", which as I say isn't fair at all. But it's honest.
This genre I always consider very intellectual and academic to begin with. Doesn't make me think of things earthy and immediate. So it sort of comes with the territory (ie I expect it to be 'overwritten', by pop standards)
These are more reactions than criticisms. Its definitely very well done regardless. Only really 'Skeleton in ClosetCupboard' is really sticking with me at the moment. It's somehow smoother than the rest, despite being very much of the same, I dunno, process as the rest. Congrats very much on order all the same.

I dunno where to put this. I'm not listening to it right now. It's not a fave youtube moment. It's not particularly creative (average recording, not bad post- and ok video). If you like cheerful harmonic folk stuff you might like it and LOL that I have Shakey's old "job".

Lol wasn't expecting rap. That is fucking awesome. Love the melody and imagery. Tell him to keep working on his flow, he's really good, tho a little bit rough around the edges I guess (this coming from someone who has no flow) :D

We snuck into the University's electro-acoustic studio and cracked the code on their giant, regularly tuned, Yamaha grand piano so we could record our next song on it. It's gonna sound sweet.
