So a little discussion in Fingernails birthday thread lead to this idea, a thread where people who want to post anything in the way of the arts, like music, artwork, writing, can link to stuff they have done/are working on, for the enjoyment of others and to maybe obtain some feedback as well.
I mean links too, I dont think posting the first chapter of your new novel in its entirety would be the greatest idea, provide a file or site to go to instead.
Discussion should be kept reasonably civil as well, these sort of things can get a bit precious sometimes (Person A posts song, Person B says 'not that great', Person A goes into blind rage HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT MY HEART IS PIERCED BY THOUSAND ARROWS OF SCORN) If you put stuff up for public consumption, you must realize not everyone is going to like what you do.
So, thats my idea, if it works great, if it dies so be it.

So I will put my money where my mouth is, so to speak and go first.
(
http://www.myspace.com/thepigmancometh) The Pigman here is my music page, has a mixed bag of songs, 2 with vocals(of sorts), 2 instumentals. Its all pretty rough, 'bedroom bandit' stuff, but have a listen!

Got some real Steely Dan vibes going on with The Funk :thumb: I like your music, the production is juicy.
My band is called Ghost Cousin (formerly Gone Savage which I posted here over a year ago); we've been working on a setlist for ages. And for the past month or so we've been trying to record, which never seems to get any easier. We have two songs more-or-less finished and up on the myspace. I know the vocals need to be redone—both the main singer and I were sick when we did them—but I'm still pretty proud of what we've done so far. Besides, we needed to have material to send to promoters. Okay, enough self-deprecation:

and a youtube video, featuring our country song: (

Tips from the more producingly-inclined would be so welcome.
edit: ps the ghost cousin tracks are too quiet. Turn your speakers way up and they'll sound better. Something I should fix, I guess.
double edit - tracks are fixed

My name is Scots Taffer, and I endorse this mega-thread.
edit: I will post something I last worked on soon.

Pig, I love the guitar solo at around 1:20 of When Aliens Attack.

Aja listening to the youtube track now. Sound aside, I quite like it, certainly remaniscent of something, but I cant put my finger on it. The staccato keyboard riff in the chorus I didnt like much though, kinda of jarring to the nice mellow groove you guys had set up. Is that you on keys?
This is the sort of thing I dont do(have a musical focus that is), most of my work is kinda like musical jokes.
Will listen to more later, gotta go.
Aja on 19/3/2010 at 04:44
Yep, that's me. You might be right about that riff, though I think at this particular show I was too loud. In the actual mix (which is still being put together) I imagine it'd be toned way down so that the guitar (which was too quiet at the show) could stand out more.

Man, you people make me wish I stuck to learning the guitar. I got as far as the barre chords, and pretty much put it aside for my other more baseline interests. Course it was bound to happen. I wasn't learning guitar for the love of music, rather so I could draw even more attention to myself than I already do. A great musician I would not have been.
I haven't given up all the creative stuff, though. I still do photography occasionally, and I'm always making slow, slooowww progress towards being a semi-competent 3D modeler. Just recently, I had a good start on an awesome landscape I was doing for TDM, but then my computer had a spaz fit and I've been locked out from all my work. That always sucks, and tends to take some wind out of my sails. So to get back into it, I figured I'd do something futuristic instead of my usual medieval/victorian/art nouveau stylings.
(
http://users.chartertn.net/greymatt/turbine_room_1.jpg) This is what I've been working on for the last couple of days. Pretty neat, really shiny, nice and round. Maybe one day I'll actually do something useful with this stuff. :P

PigLick a couple of your songs reminded me of a mix of Brian Eno grooves and Henry Mancini scores, and the result was kind of Mario Kart chase music.
And Aja your stuff was nice I can imagine it being very nice in a more careful mix or something.
I have a couple new songs on (
http://www.myspace.com/blueblackthings) that are better examples of stuff my friend and I have done in ableton live sessions- the first two are more carefully constructed as in with overdubs or revisions, but still completed in one session, and the second two are just jams. They're not attempts at proper songs cause neither of us are very focused.

Holy buttcakes this thread's already off to an awesome start. I'm gonna have to take a look at everyone's stuff when I have more time. Makes me wish I'd started learning to play the guitar earlier.
