Creating new MatLibs. - by massimilianogoi

Hy, I would like to create a new MatLib using 3ds max 5.1.
I've choosed to create by my own for essentially two reasons:
1-) The str8g8's custom MatLibs are only 64x64, instead I need of some 256x256 textures (painting a building wall with 64x64 results graphically a bit... artificial; a larger texture guarantees a higher naturalness);
2-) It's a personal challenge, if str8g8 reached that, why me not? :p
When I create my own material library in this way:

in the moment of importing the MatLib in T3Editor Textures, it appear an empty box selection, with all the Engine textures:

What I'm wrong? :weird:

First: str8g8's matlib pack doesn't stop you using 256^2 textures - you can put in whatever size images you want just as long as the names are what the matlib is expecting to find.
Second, well, that all looks okay to me, so I'd suggest trying to reload the material lab in max. I have in the past had a little trouble with actually having the ion shaders save properly, so I tend to save the material to the library, clear the material slot and load it back in again to see if it's carrying itself around properly.
But, that said, I am *fairly* certain that's not your problem (the mat export thing isn't reporting any errors), so...
I'll have a think about it, see if I can come up with anything else.

I hate to state the obvious, but you did copy the matlib to your matlib folder, didn,t you? Also, I'm pretty sure you need to restart T3Ed to get the matlib to load.
Odd that your Texture Browser doesn't say which matlib you're looking at.

@ Ziemanskye: I've tried to pass again the library via .mlb->.mat, and load it again in the Material browser, and the materials assigns itself to the textures correctly. No problems here... you have already build a MatLib on your own?
And for that problem I mailed you, about texturing the smeshes, I just solve that reading deep and interpreting the Ulukai's tutorial :-) (I've also ordered that tutorial a little bit more easy to understand). Ulukai rules! :ebil:
@ nomad: yes, I've saved all the experiments in the T3Editor MatLib folder, moreover, following the str8g8 installation instruction, I've placed the FACTwallDorange_D.dds and CHRwallD_N.dds both in PCTextures and Textures.

Yeah, I've built my own matlibs before. Nothing particularly great in them, because I'm not actually good at making textures, but I've done it.
But otherwise, it sounds like you're nearly ready to roll, so:
Make with the levels already :p

Sorry, but sometime you use an hieroglyphic english... or maybe it's me that I'm not mother tongue... What you mean about?

(It seems like you are progressing very well and ready to start creating things.)
Make with the levels already
(We are very anxious to see your first level released so we can enjoy playing it.)

OK, how are you importing the matlib into T3Editor? Describe exactly the steps you are taking.

It's all described above, str8g8, on the first thread post: first image, points 3 and 4.
Obviously, after creating the .mlb file, I positioned it in the MatLib folder of the T3Editor, and the textures I used were placed both in Textures and PCTextures folder... :( :( :(
This thing are going make me mad.
You're the only hope.
