Hey there.
Since 1.22 patch we are able to add subtitles into Thief I and Thief II. I was checking it with my friend and we did some progress. I would like to introduce here some of our notes etc..
For now we testing Thief II so this will be related for it. I believe as it can works with some tweaks also on Thief I.

Step
1) - Edit USER.CFG and put at the end those lines.

Every word describe group for subtitles and and last three numbers describes colors RGB (Red Green Black)
Example 1) subtitles_color_convo 0 255 0 will makes us Green text..
Example 2) subtitles_color_convo 200 200 0 will makes us Yellow text..
Yes it can be mixed together to make custom colors.

Step
2) - Create new folders in your Thief 2 directory to following.
YOUR PATH\subtitles\english
and there create text file miss1.sub which you will be editing with .txt extension (or whatever you have)
After editing and saving text file dont forget to rename it back on miss1.sub.
So finally look of it is following
