Ok, I have searched the forums, and I am sick of looking at everyones problems, I need help with mine, and I can't seem to find one that matches.
system
iwill kk266 with amd duron @ 1000mhz
256 megs ram
win xp home
onboard sound is CMI audio 3768?? or so, with newest drivers
visiontek geforce 2 gts 32 meg DDR graphics card with newest xp drivers
35 gigs ( 15 and a 20 )
all the latest drivers.
all other games run perfectly
My Problem
Morrowing loads, I select new, movie played, I wake up, see the dude in front of me, system reboots.... every time...
-- reinstalled xp. reinstalled morrowind, got all new drivers for everything in system
run morrowind, i select new, movie played, I wake up see dude in front of me, and it reboots my computer.
-- reinstalled xp, and game, patched morrowind to latest, got all the drivers again..
see above... see the dude, game instantly goes to desktop, computer is locked up. can't ctl-alt-del. no taskbar.
has anyone had this happen and if so, did you ever get morrowind to work?
this is making me so friggin mad!! I have tried just about everything. and nothing works, the best I can get is CTD...
but I have had morrowind run on my system once, and was able to get started, play the game, and then it bombed, and I can't run it anymore. all hardware is the same, all drivers were the same, ( all new )
any help would be nice.
and if you flame me, just make sure you flame me nicely :joke:

That sounds like it could be a safedisk problem. You can get the no-safedisk exe from the 'Performance Boost' thread above.
Hope that helps!

thanks I will give that a try.

:eww: the no-cd safedisk crack allowed me to at least get through waking up, but right after that it crashes to my desktop, and if I try to load morrowind again it will reboot my computer
:erg: I am starting to hate Morrowind. XBox version is good, but it needs a lot of patching.

Waitasec... right after you wake up and see himfella? That's just when he talks to you; the previous audio you hear (ie: during the movie) is actually a movie. Just for grins, try messing with audio (turning off EAX if you have it on), disabling audio somehow (turning it all the way down in options may do it), and other things sound-related. If you can wander around now, you'll at least know that it's your sound drivers that are having a problem w/ Morrowind.

Thanks for the look-out Forsythe. I tried the sound options, I think I finally figured out the problem... I think that my CPU is the cause of all the trouble, since I just got selected to beta test Earth and Beyond. and after trying to run that game and having it crashing the same way... I think that my poor little duron has finally kicked the can. Come to think of it whenever I start doing really CPU intensive things my computer decides to lock up and crash. Thank you everyone that tried helping, it definately allowed me to see the main issue in my setup....:erm: and I thought that I had checked everything.

Too bad you couldn't get it to behave itself; ah well, good luck w/ the new comp ;)

If your computer is crashing while doing anything CPU intensive, it sounds like your CPU fan/cooler is not quite up to the job and your CPU is overheating. Try getting a new bigger cooler for the CPU and see if that cures the problem.
I had a similiar problem while building a machine at work - every time I tried to install WIndows it would crash with very weird errors ("Wrong font type" was my favourite). It was solved by changing the fan.

Thats why I think it is my CPU, I got a good heatsink and fan, its some kind of Thermaltake bohemoth... it came with thermal tape, ( very bad ) and it took me too one to figure out that I should have scraped it off and put on thermal grease, which I did, but I think that it is too late, even playing solitre is too much while listening to mp3's... lol. and that was at the normal clock rate for the CPU.
hopefully bathesda is smart and releases a patch disk for the xbox, which they can, because they left the program open to do that. but they kicked themselves in the feet, I had to quit 3 times on some sweet characters on the xbox because of game bugs. and I am on my 4th that I am gonna have to do the same to. I was addicted to the game like crack... but now I hate playing, because it is just too flakey. so I wanted to go to PC... and wow that is flakey too. even when it did run...
Oh shoot, look at me I am blabbering on... dang Corona Extra:bored: :joke: beter stop before I get flamed...
Anyone have any ideas on a mobo thats cheap, high quality, and not Intel? (sorry but I really think that AMD is much better, just laggin behind right now. )
thanks
