I'm currently on my first 1.004 run of stalker and just finished escorting Kruglov past the mercs in wild territory. When we get past the burner anomalies Kruglov stops and asks me to talk to him but the game crashes every time I do, meaning I can't finish the quest and save him. I've never experienced this bug before, has anyone else? Anyone know of a fix?

I had a crash in 1.0003, which happened when I tried to enter the mobile lab in Yantar for the first time. I had to restore an earlier save, before going to Yantar, and the next time I went there the problem was gone. Maybe you should try entering the Wild Territory again and repeat the quest, then check if the problem remains.

I haven't. BTW, not a single crash for entire game so far (like 30 or 40 hours), in static lighting mode. Maybe try exit the area and enter it again? Or load autosave or earlier save if that won't help.

Okay, new game and the exact same thing happened again. Another crash I had in my last game was when talking to the scientist trader after getting the psi emission data to upgrade the psi helmet. It would happen every time I tried it and I eventually had to load my autosave and blow the guys brains out as soon as he left the bunker. This makes it impossible to get the better psi helmet.
I've also had a couple of random crashes and utter non-responsiveness once or twice. Is it just me or is 1.004 less stable than 1.001?
Oh, and if you leave wild territory without talking to kruglov you fail the quest and he completely vanishes.

For my computer it's as stable as 1.0003. I think it's 40-50 hours already, lots of side quests etc. - no single crash, including Kruglov and other scientists...
My config is WindowsXP (if you play under Vista, maybe it's the reason), 1,5Gb RAM, 9800Pro 128Mb. Tried to switch to static lighting mode in those critical spots just in a case? Also, you don't use any mods by chance? I use only Bardak's "bug fix attempt" for 1.0004 from Aug,24.

I've got a few mods on, I forget what exactly, and I'm sure that some of the crashes I've had are due to mods. For example, typos in the game files generally lead to the game crashing in the loading screen. While playing, the game will also crash when loading a gun loaded with a type of ammo which it no longer supports (I changed the 9x18mm +P+ round into a 5.7x28mm round and edited the pmm, pb and fort files so they would no longer load this ammunition). Annoyingly, the game only crashes when you get to whatever the required distance is for the game to load the offending object, which can make the reason for the crash hard to pinpoint.
I'm not so sure about mods being responsible for the random crashes and lock-ups, as I remember getting a couple of them on my first, modless run. The game crashing scientists could well be a different matter. Tomorrow I might try removing all mods and my game just before the kruglov crash, I guess we'll see then.

So far I haven't had a single crash in my current 1.0004 game. It seems to be as stable as 1.0003 was. The crash I talk about in my other post was in 1.0001 instead, not 1.0003.
Incidentally, 1.0005 is now available, although I believe that all it does is fixing some MP issues.
