Thanks - I'll be trying things out when I get off the internet- which may take some time, because ttlg is so goddamn addictive...
I have a legal British version of MW and Tribunal, and the only plugin I'm running is the Modern Adventurer.
Computer isn't squashed in a confined space, and it's never hot in my house unless I light a fire. Delightful in the summer, bloody freezing in the winter.
What about the operating system change/reinstall? I don't know whether this is 'scientific', I just have a feeling that occasionally it does it good to have a complete reformat/OS reinstall. Though that could be a problem since I got a bigger hard drive and no cdrw, therefore no way of backing everything up.
Oh, and I have all manner of crashes and freezes. The crash to desktop on startup. Same in the middle of the game. And loading a savegame. The time when the right edge of the screen twitches during startup, and then it ALWAYS crashes, either before I even load a game, or soon after. Then there are the freezes while entering new areas, in the inventory screen, mid-stride anywhere at all- these freezes are the more common ones. The crash to desktop is rarer, but it is its frequency which increased, which made me notice and ask your advice.

I find that it almost always freezes if I have my speed set high (mostly from the Boots of Blinding Speed.) But I don't think there's much you can do to stop the game from freezing or crashing. Just save often and be glad it doesn't take like 5 minutes to load a game like it does for the XBox. :cheeky:

If you've got the urge to reinstall something, make it the game first. As you've only got one plugin it ought to be fairly easy to get everything back the way you like it, so you haven't got too much to lose

Some days I can go for hours and not have a crash, while on other days the thing will crap out on me every 15 minutes it seems. Most of mine seem to occur during or just after a cell loads, and frequently near the end of my play sessions as I'll only have a couple of things left to do and then I'm going to quit, so my game takes this as a good time to crash and stretch those couple of things to over a half hour more.
I'm tempted to agree with Myoldnamebroke though, I think Morrowind is just a really buggy game, considering all it's trying to juggle it's a wonder it dosen't crash more.
I thought I was having framerate problems with after Bloodmoon as well but then I noticed that I accidentally turned on N-Patches by hitting the N key, oops!

Have you changed any motherboard BIOS settings recently? I had constant crashing until I realized that I had accidentally overclocked (Putting back settings after erasing the CMOS). If you have messed with the BIOS, try going back and turning off various features that sound like they make things go faster. Some of them cause various parts of the motherboard to overheat (there aren't always cooling devices on the chipset parts, which are the ones controlled by those BIOS functions that could be overheating), which can be a culprit. Also, do other games run? Usually, if you have a problem like I've described, you'll have problems with other games as well. Try running one of the 3DMark200x benchmarks and see if your computer can make it through all of the tests without crashing.

Just thought I'd add my name to the list of people who are experiencing more frequent crashes - it usually happens after I load a new saved game. . .
I have recently installed bloodmoon, and I re-installed tribunal before that. . .
added a bunch of new plugins, but that is not new behaviour for me.. . tracking down the culprit could be almost impossible cuz of all the variables between various different systems - but I like the theory about the cache getting bigger - as you progress through a game, it must have more stuff to have to keep track of. . .

Well, I tried the 'shut down everything that autoruns in the background' approach (as suggested by James Sterrett) last time I played, and it didn't crash once. Could be a coincidence, but then again, maybe not.
I'll just make sure I do a selective startup when I want to play MW from now on.
Thanks for suggestions, everyone!
