So I get my brand new shiny Morrowind copy (green plastic case and all) and unwrap it. I then *carefully* (I'm anal about keeping my discs clean) pluck it from the little green yin-yang type thing, and set it gently into my Xbox tray. I push the button. It slides in with a satisfying little click (and that light blinks oh-so mesmerizingly! I love this system)
Five minutes into the game, I get a black screen. "Disc may be dirty or damaged" Remember my meticulous handling? I'm thinking I have a bad disc! Restart, everything back to normal. Whew! Just a scare.
Enter 3 days later. It happens again, fortunately just after an autosave. It was right as I was heading to the Ministry of Truth. Just as I would reach the Temple canton. It happened 5 times inside of 15 minutes (load times...). I decide that my Xbox doesn't want to do that right now, and go dispatch a couple Camonna Tong thugs I'd been told about. Come back and it works. Odd...
Still crashes now and then. I save about every 5 minutes to be safe (but those saves keep getting longer). Just to let you all know, there IS an issue. The disc hasn't left the tray since I inserted it, so nothing new there. Really it's only a nuisance if you're careful about saving, but my friend lost 5 hours on his Barbarian (turned off autosave when rest, shame). Anyone else seen this?

After my first X-box got stolen I had to go out and rebuy it and Halo. The new copy of halo (mind you never had left the case until it was carefully inserted into the tray) worked fine until I got to a certain level. (Assault on the control room... drool...)
anyway I returned the game (faulty burned disc, happened a couple times on my ps2 as well) got a new one, and killed covenant like I should.
Morrowind is much better. I think I'd beat someone if I was consistantly crashing.

There are a lot of people who've had this problem. I personally just started experiencing it recently, after already playing about 30 hours or so. It seems to be worse around Vivec/Ebonheart. It usually happens to me when I'm in that area and I try to go into my inventory. I've heard that using a DVD lens cleaner helps with it, but that means you'd have to have the DVD playback kit installed, as well.

I had the same problems with my XBOX, except that it went away mysteriously. It started freezing up more and more as the days went by. At the worst point it was crashing ten times a day.
I eventually said "Screw it!" and went to Thievery for a few days. When I came back two days later, it worked fine, and has worked fine for a week, except for the time I crashed it on purpose. :ebil:

Blame it on the only thing that can cause a crash: Microsoft

Heh, I gave up on Morrowind for a bit due to the crash and finally finished Halo on Legendary (theres a secret ending btw... sorta). And yeah the control room level rocks! =p
Played MW earlier though and didn't get a crash. Was playing my mage through the Ministry of Truth part too and no crash. Odd. It happened though shortly after a save when I got back home (Nerano Manor) and ran out to the alchemist to unload a bunch of ash salts. After 5 times in a row it really sucked that first time though, but it's not as bad now. And I've never had it happen on Halo so I doubt it's the Xbox.
On another note, I discovered something odd. My Xbox, when I purchased it, was pre-owned. My first clue was not having to set the date when I started it like the manual said. Then, as I was going through the memory earlier, I discovered save files for Spiderman, NFL Fever 2002, and Hunter: The Reckoning, none of which are games I've owned or rented. I'm probly going to rent one and load up the saves, see if I can get a name (out of curiosity).
Oh, and Dammit! Morrowind doesn't support Soundtrack audio! I wanted to listen to my Gladiator soundtrack while playing (music would fit perfectly). Oh well, it can't be perfect.

I too have had the same xbox Morrowind crash problem, matter of fact, it just crashed!! Now, I was right outside of Balmora, in the Andrethi tomb so as to try to get the disease that turns you into a vamp. I had went through the first door, disarmed the trap in the next door, open the door, head toward the vamps, and the game locks up, and I'm not sure whether the game caused this or my xbox, but SOMETHING in the game or system, started humming, more like:meeeeeeeee, and, people, IT NEVER STOPED, did the humming!! Is something wrong with my system or did Bethesda softworks just screw up the game!? Also, NO BLACK SCREEN!!! Help!

Crashed 2 days ago.
I was wrong. Its definately a bug. Some are to be expected when you have such a highly consuming program.
Black screen, dirty disc error. Reset and it works again.
