Many thanks for your help, Biker. The order has been placed and hopefully will be here tomorrow, or Friday at the latest!
Knowing my luck it will be the graphics card that's the problem, though :( Someone on the Palit boards suggested that its VRAM might be shot.

All my mates have Xboxes, the basts :p. The sysadmin at my local college might be willing to help though - I'll be speaking to him next week some time.

Hurm, new PSU did not improve matters apart from giving me a different message on the BSoD. :( Back with the graphics card to the supplier, I guess.
Edit: I tell you what though, the PSU itself is pretty quiet, even sitting outside the case, plus the cables appear to be even more logically set out than the modular one I just replaced. I can't help but feel that my cable management is about to become a lot easier.

The store has confirmed that the card is faulty and a replacement has been ordered.

And yay, the new card works! Windows Experience Index doesn't seem to think it's any better than the 7900GT but I suspect that Fallout 3 will. :p Many thanks for your help and assistance Biker, you're a star.
