For the sake of £40 I might just go for the Black Edition, particularly as I note Dabs and a lot of other stores are now selling a 65nm version of the 6000+ with only 512Kb x 2 of L2 cache instead of the 90 nm 1Mb x 2 version. With that, a Northbridge cooler, a new heatsink and fan I could be in the money!

Eh, I think I'll just get that 6000+ notwithstanding the 512Kb x 2 L2 cache, I don't want to spend too much over the odds after all. That makes:

Do you think I should get a (

Thing is Biker, for £20 extra I get a card overclocked to 700/1980 with a Zalman cooler anyway, let along the 1Gb memory - I wouldn't want to try messing with overclocking on my own! Thanks for the info about the PSU though, that at least cuts down the cost.

UK prices make me cringe,
Can't a euro-taffer find a U.S. taffer to help them out?
Matthew on 7/11/2008 at 11:16
BT Shop and Dabs are the same thing now apparently, but that's the 625Mhz version. ;)
You swine, I was all set and now I want that one instead! :p
bikerdude on 7/11/2008 at 15:12
well you should have come to me first :cheeky:
you culd of course do what I did and get a leadtek GTX280 for £240 - but that was a fre months ago and I havent seen any more at that price.

Too rich for my blood, I'd like to keep the cost as close to £300 as possible. The (hopefully) final version is therefore:
Athlon 64 X2 6000+ = £66
Extra 2Gb CL5 DDR2 RAM = £25
Xpertvision Radeon 4870 = £190
Northbridge Cooler = £15
CPU Cooler = £25
Total = £320.
I think my PSU will probably be able to cope with it actually as its 520W and not 450 as I'd thought, if not I'll upgrade it at a later date.
