TMA is considered to be inferior to TG by most players.

I like the bots. Or rather, without them, what threat would Karras have been? The trickster was a near-indestructible being with an army of critters thrown in as a bonus, while Karras was human after all, as he hid in his chamber and left the rest to his children. If a combat bot could just be backstabbed or knocked out with one hit that would take away a lot of the story. Or rather the change/ (future) threat the mechanists represented.
Of course TTLG could have done T2 with Victoria as endboss and thrown in some more critters, though I don't know if that would not have been too repetitive.
I understand all that and mostly agree. However overall, TMA just wasn't as creepy as T1 and had fewer surprises in the missions, and I think that's mostly because the focus on the mechanical age. The background made Garrett more a hero rather than the selfish ne'er-do-good he was before, and he was mostly forced through the story with no choices to make of his own. In T1, almost all the missions were actually his own decision to do: Paying the rent, getting new equipment, working for a million bucks, getting his eye back.
Maybe it was just the setting that prevented TMA to become as fascinating as T1. That doesn't mean that TMA was bad, just a little less thrilling than T1.
P.S.: Talking about the threat Karras had been: For me he always was just a ridiculous lunatic, never a real threat. Not sure how his voice was in English, but in German he sounds like an idiot.

Hm, I don't know about that, too long ago.

I can agree to some extent. When I think of T1 vs. T2, T1 meant waiting, as T2 meant action. Maybe I'm terribly wrong, but at least as I remember, the level design of T1 forced more pauses, while the more spaceious, gratious leveldesign of T2 allowed a more fluent gameplay, as if one place was ocupied by a guard, you could just move to another and clean up afterwards. Aside small variations, T1 was more claustrophobic, threatening, you had to deal with the enemy at hand and felt like getting sucked deeper and deeper into the level. Which is why Ramirez' mansion failed.

I just realized, I have never played T2 in german. T1 of course, I always loved Victoria's "
alte Geschäftsfreunde".
So I just watched some T2 german videos and by god, the combat bots are lame. Too clean and crisp compared to the "schnarrenden" voices in english. Also, listening to Sheriff Truart vs. Karras... I recognized Truart: he is voiced by Martin Keßler... Martin Keßler, who also synchronises Nicolas Cage... that is awesome! :D:D This put a big grin on my face, although yes, for the atmosphere it is devastating.
And the german voice for Karras is just awful. Which is terrible for a villain whose voice is all you get. He doesn't sound like a lunatic, more like a Märchenonkel. A bland one. Damn, they really ruined T2 german.

I was merely pointing out that you are making baseless assertions. A poll with just a handful of people means nothing. At best you could make the claim that the first game is more popular on TTLG.

Yeah whatever. Only that your reasoning does not explain that TMA is considered to be inferior to TG by most players. If it's not atmosphere/thieving it must probably be the lack of kangaroo jumping in TMA (engine).
Not really. TMA is mostly considered to be the best in the series by fans and the general public.

I was merely pointing out that you have no clue what you're talking about. Registered in 2004, but apparently having ignored the many discussions about this topic. You're just lazy and try to cover that with finger pointing, that's all. If you want to talk, read up on the available information before accusing others of making things up.

Anyway, the original message was that the quality of missions is by far not the lone criterion of judging TG/TMA vs. T2X. That really does not depend on whether one silghtly prefers T1 over TMA or vice versa.
Starker on 3/10/2016 at 20:39
So? I've seen the discussions and taken part in them myself, so what? A handful of fans arguing on a message board proves nothing.
The "[citation needed]" wasn't me asking for a citation, it was me pointing out that the claim lacks any basis.

Oh my, does Zaya in T2X really smash skulls with a carpenter's hammer and call the corpses "unconscious body"?! Cannot believe that, now that I tried to replay T2X... :eww:
