Could "T2X: Shadows of the Metal Age" be better than TG and T2? - by Sanctus Germanus

Well, is a reason in a comment from a newcommer like "I like this game, because it feels better, because I enjoy it more" not good enough? Not everybody goes into mathematical and statistical analysis, some people rely on emotion more :)
As long as the newcomer doesn't yap about TDP graphics sucking, I don't see a problem. Also emotion stems/can be backed up by choice of voice acting, level design, etc. So as long as the review is coherent and somewhere based on, fine. Pushing Basho for two hours is not required. Azal must have had the patient of a saint. Or a skript/drugs.

1. I never insulted anyone (atleast not in this thread), all of the "insulting" quotes weren´t from me.
Learn reading instead of complaining.

2. Also you have proven with that long text about the "good oldie´ days in the trenches" how much of an elitist you are and what a high horse you sit on.
I'm not one bit concerned about anybody's perception, only about the games. Live with it or don't, it does not matter to me. It's only that if anybody talks statistical, mathematical or technical nonsense about the game, she will get corrected.

Believe it or not but your arguements aren´t worth a single dime more than others even if you would have been the first member of ttlg.
That quite obviously depends on the argument, not on who voices it. The problem here is the lack of arguments, not what people think about who says what.

Well I did. Also it was rather clear that you would nver acknowledge the mistake with the gggmanlives video (did you actually watch that one properly?)
I don't know what you mean. He says:
Quote:
The Thief series is well known for it suspense[...] and horror based atmosphere, and Thief Gold is arguably the best of the bunch.
(Didn't quite understand the word or two between "suspense" and "and horror based".) It's a mystery to me how one could interpret the "best of the bunch" bit regarding to "atmosphere". Only assuming that he made a grammatical mistake would allow that interpretation. All right, later on he says:
Quote:
Personally I prefer Thief 2
So, he's more fond of Thief 2 and thinks Thief Gold is "argueably better". For voicing a slightly inconsistent opinion I'd "downgrade" him to the "undecided" or "both games are equally good" categories, I'll grant you that.
Anyway, I get tired of this talk, because I spend much more time investigating the arguments I bring up while you just spew out stuff like
Quote:
As far as my experience goes about 70-80% like TMA more.
And then, after seeing polls that back "T1 has mostly been preferred", you fail to produce any data backing your own claim, even if its manually selected to show your point. Given the most favourite interpretation of your (low quality) data, it's (T1: 12, T2: 22, T1=T2: 8). As far as my basic arithmetics works, 22 of 42 is about 52.381%. In other words: You just babble along, not caring about whether what you say is true or not, it it just *feels* right for you. In even other words: You're stealing my time. Nobody forbids you to have your personal opinion or perception about what people tell you, but it's something different to have a personal experience with something on one hand, and claiming this experience is the objective truth on the other hand.
The reason why I take the time at all to answer these posts in detail is childish stuff like
Quote:
Also it was rather clear that you would nver acknowledge the mistake with the gggmanlives video
where not replying to something that I did not think was worth the effort is taken as "proof" that what one said is "right". That's just silly billy behaviour.

And yes, luthien is quite right. The *only* reason I came into this thread is because I look at this forum everyday, and when I saw that luthien was posting I was stoked! When I got into the thread, I couldnt believe how these people were disrespecting him. Blew me mind. Superior? You guys are the ones who brought that assumption to the table.
Please remember that this forum was founded on Thief: The Dark Project. The owners of TTLG were in direct contact with the team while they were making the damn thing! The batch of early TTLGers were like a swarming frenzy of sharks. It is all documented, and free to read! Everyone here was part of it, and as luthien pointed out, everyone contributed to the frenzy. It was a grand time that will never occur again, and yet, here is the lasting legacy of all those years of tireless work... still free for the taking.
The silver lining is that now you know who luthien is. :)
Peace.

Interesting, I've lost all game sound in TG a couple of times, I guess one time in T2 and never in T2X. I guess, it's a dark engine thing.
Never had that happening with TDP or TG or TMA. It happened two in the train station, on the platform next to the train (loading did not help), so I assumed it must have been something specific to the mission. Later on I had to watch a briefing of a mission in a video player because it lacked sound ingame. Even later, there was the same thing in another mission, and also two crashes (dumped to desktop). That makes lost sound four or five times (depending on how you count) and two crashes in half a week. Plain TMA never has been anywhere near being that unstable for me, but honestly I must say that I never played anything based on T2 before on this box. TDP and TG run rock solid as ever, though.

Believe it or not, I've never seen or heared a comment like "Thief sucks because graphics are bad". I've heared something like "Graphics in Thief are outdated by today's standarts, but the game more than makes up for it with sound design and general gameplay". I'm pretty sure that somewhere there are people trashing Thief over its graphics, but not in my experience... So I guess such thing is not too common.

Granted, you won't hear it in RL and I rather think not on this board, because someone who gets turned off easily by it's graphics won't bother to register on TTLG. Also when half a million people (including myself) bought it initially, it was already on the lower side, but the rest made soo up for it.
Yet here and there in comment sections you hear people ramble on out games how shitty they look. Or how they don't see why it's so revolutionary. Those "reviews" I can't stand (and ignore most of the time).
