COSAS 2 Mission X - Available Now ... 8-15-08 - by Digital Nightfall

So, I've come back to this mission after not playing it for, well, years. It's practically fresh and new to me after all this time!
But I've got a problem, and I'm wondering if it's 1.19 related.
I cannot get the game to acknowledge that I have accepted Rubber's duties. I get to that point, I accept, and my objectives do not update. Rubber's keys appear at the front desk, but despite trying to use the duty roster, all I get is 'this appears to be just a boring duty roster'. I've tried to see if it's tied to other objectives (such as: will it only work if I return Cloud's key before or after I frob the duty roster?, but it never appears in my objective list. I can leave the Ivory Rose just fine, and end the mission, but I'm missing out on so much. I want to get the Agent Glass ending, because I know I didn't manage to get that ending before.
Could this issue be 1.19 related, or am I simply not doing something right in the game itself?

Maybe neither. I've had a problem with that as well, when I played the mission with Thief 1.18 years ago.
I played up to the point where Dante gets the opportunity to accept this additional objective in a conversation, and I accepted. Everything went fine then, but somewhat later the guards killed me.
When I reloaded, I also answered "I'll do it!" in the appropriate conversation, but after that nothing happened anymore. The conversation did not proceed, and I could not ask
Rubber what I should do exactly (he would have told me
where to find the list with his chores, then). Instead, I could only ask "how do I get to the third floor without being seen", which apparently is related to an objective requiring Dante to
enter Cloud's suite.
I think there's a posting somewhere in this thread which states that there's a time limit for accepting
Rubber's chores as an additional task, about twenty to thirty seconds, but that's not what went wrong in my case. I selected "I'll do it" no more than ten seconds after I got the opportunity to do so.
Maybe there are circumstances where or when this objective does not work correctly, regardless of which version of Thief 2 one uses for playing.

I know I accepted immediately, on two separate runs. After it didn't work the first time, I reloaded a save from the moment I turned off the cameras (that was the choice I'd made earlier) and played both up to the moment that I returned Cloud's key (to his room once and to his belt another), and then tried to use the duty roster (I have tried using it both before and after returning the key, with no luck). I reloaded and replayed the second time because I was slow and lazy exploring the first run (after I'd accepted the duties), and I thought that time spent might have had something to do with it. But it was 'time played' and not 'time before accepting', since I responded instantly both times.
Also, both times Rubber relayed to me where to get the duty roster and that he'd left keys for me, and he had indeed. I can get the keys he left at the front desk just fine, of course, but it's the duty roster that remains a problem. It's frobbable, it just does nothing but pop up a message about it being 'just a duty roster blah blah.'
Darn it. I remember doing the duties the first time I played this, years ago. I just hadn't managed to complete my given task first & all the other requirements to become Agent Glass back then. Ah well, I'll keep trying and see if I can make it work on either 1.19 or 1.18.

Is there any news about COSAS project? I'd like to know if someone is still trying to make this project breath again? Will there be releases? Anything?

(

I would have stacked things but I only had some inventory items (potions, etc.) and there aren't any crates to be found. It's almost like someone made sure that there was not a single crate at all in the mission, for some odd reason. :p

I was never given the option of doing Rubber's side jobs, so the Ambassador's key was not to be found at the front desk. I think that's bcause I knocked Rubber out (was he the one working tables undercover at the second floor bar at the Pearl Gambling Hall, the one carrying a wiping cloth?). But thats not my real question.....is there another way into the Ambassador's suite ?

I don't remember for sure, but rubber's tasks might be dependent upon difficulty level, as for the door regardless,
stab it seven times

Thanks, it worked.

It's been ages since I, or probably anyone, have played this last, but if anyone remembers....
I have a question: When Rubber is compromised, he informs Dante that the duty roster with his tasks is on the third floor, in the west end of the north corridor, in a staff supply closet. Well, I went there, but when I try to pick up the roster, all I get is a white text above the screen saying "this duty roster for the Ivory Rose staff isn't all that interesting." Basically, I can't pick it up or read it. Am I in the wrong place? Or is it a bug? Or a third alternative I haven't been able to come up with? If anyone can remember....
I'd forgotten how difficult this mission in. I noticed from my previous saves that the last time I finished the mission (in 2011) it took me 5 hours, 49 minutes to complete! Ouch! I'm hoping to shave some of that time off this time. But the missing/faulty duty roster makes my life harder! Grrr.....
Still, a beautiful mission, far exceeding the likes of NuThief :thumb:
