Hi, I've just joined the forums to ask this question:
I'm writing the script for a video game. (Nothing big, it'll almost certainly be free and it's being made in the First Person Shooter Creator, so it won't be technically stunning.) It has a Steampunk (or, if you prefer, a Neo Victorian) setting: you know, pipes, gears, cogs, pistons, steam power. And I've decided to have a Steampunk computer (that is, AI) in the game. Its name is CONSUL, and it's not very friendly, in the typical "evil/rogue AI" mould.
My question is this: for the final section of the game, the player will have to shut down CONSUL. He will be disabled in stages: first his Logic will be disabled, then his Ethical Constraints, then his Higher Cognitive Functions and finally the Central Processing Unit. He will become more and more deranged as you progress, as a result. And, in a tribute to SS, I'd like his final words to be:
"L-L-Look at you, agent. A pa- A pathetic creature of- creature of- My System has been shocked. Don't forget to salt the fries. Salt... the fries..."
I'm wondering, is this allowed under copyrights and such? Will EA bring its big, evil boot crushing down on my poor script-writing fingers? If it's not then I could always write different last words, but these seem to fit the hubris of the AI and the deranged state that it's fallen into.
Thankee for taking time to read this :D

Legal or not, I think it would be excruciatingly, eye-rollingly lame.

Hm... I never considered that. Maybe I got too wrapped up in telling the story :nono:

Sounds like the exact opposite, really. Unless there's some story reason why CONSUL would be saying "Salt the fries".

"My system has been shocked" is a really, really bad line. Don't do it.

Okay, okay. I guess it was pretty bad.
I thought "salt the fries" would fit because by this point, he's utterly insane.

Even the ramblings of the insane make sense to themselves.

This final boss fight sounds eerily like the end of Portal... or 2001: A Space Odyssey
