I am sure I am missing something simple but I can't seem to cook raw food. I double click on it in the inventory and hold it over the fire ( the triangle in the circle icon cursor still shows) but when I click again the raw food just returns to the inventory. I can pick locks with the tool roll using the same technique. Is there a special place around the fire that I need to use? Any ideas, please? Thanks.

Only tried the demo, but this is how it works in the demo:
Just click and hold on the food with the left mouse button /do not double click) in the inventory and then drag it to place it near the fire.
You will see and hear when it's finished.

The important thing is that you have to DROP the food CLOSE TO THE FIRE, not only hovering the food in front of the fire (otherwise, you'd burn your hand ;)).

The key is to just click and drag. Double-clicking is more of a combine item feature. Drag that sucker right over the fire and watch the magic!
