Pretty sure that was itself SCP's take on Dr. Who's Weeping Angels.

Those of you who are playing it: would you say it's worth paying full price for the game?

Depends on what you're looking for, honestly. If I take a step back and view it holistically, it's still a very stylish game full of some great graphical tech and entertaining in the moment. However, it's repetitive and there's not really depth in the gameplay or narrative. It's weird in a good way, and the lore really is fun, but its lack of character hooks like the pathos of a Max Payne (from what I've played so far) means that the Lynchian overtones/cinematography are more or less style over substance. You won't really be playing it with the urge to know what happens next.
Having said that, if you think a game's done its job by its commitment to being entertaining , then Control delivers on that front.

Cheers. Every now and then there are games where I enjoy playing it at the same time as other people I know, but from what you've written I think this isn't one of those games. I'll happily wait until Christmas or so to see how the price develops.

Too soon to say until I've finished it, but I think it might be my GOTY so far.
Yeah on the storyside it's no Max Payne. But it is pulling me in more than Quantum Break or even Alan Wake did.

Alan Wake didn't do anything for me. The Twin Peaks pastiche was shallow as a puddle, the story, characters and writing altogether was aiming for Stephen King but didn't even measure up to his more mediocre work, and as a game it just felt so damn flimsy. The production values were nice enough, but there was nothing there that could ground them.
Unsurprisingly, the thing that's appealing to me most is the location. The Oldest House does look pretty damn cool, though at the same time the screenshots and videos I've seen also make me think that it might get rather samey.

I think there's a nice amount of variety in the design and architecture of the place, with more than a few surprises, so that's not going to be as big an issue as it seems. There is, however, a fair bit of backtracking and criss-crossing if you're a compulsive collectible collector (the metroidvania angle means you have places you can't go to in the beginning, and many of these have bits of lore or materials), and that might grate after a while. I love the lighting, architecture, and material design enough not to be bored by backtracking, but YMMV. There's fast travel and a central elevator to each floor that help alleviate travelling tedium, at any rate.

Ok I finished it.
Uhhh yeah. To recap my likes/dislikes about it:
PROS:
-very engrossing in a Arkham Asylum kinda way.
-it looks gorgeous.
-I read pretty much all the readables and lore, which practically never happens.
-combat is awesome. You really feel like a Jedi with a gun.
-game sets up mysteries and gets you hooked very easily.
CONS:
-bad performance on PS4. Epic Store exclusivity on PC.
-checkpointing is often very cruel and infuriating.
-combat is often so chaotic that you don't really feel in control, further aggravating the death-load-checkpoint-retry loop and sending me in a SPIRAL OF ANGER.
-game doesn't pay it all off all the big mysteries in a very pleasing way in the end.
Overall: it's a good one. My second fave game of 2019 after Void Bastards.

Man VB's was a major disappointment in the end. Good fun for a short while.

Performance patch for PS4 came out yesterday, and it has indeed improved performance. Here's some gameplay I just captured:

The Archive (3:30 in the vid) is still pretty laggy tho, once that glitch-monster gets going.
I've wrapped up all the sidequests, and leveled Jesse up as far as she goes! Might still be a secret or two to uncover, but I think I'm done with the game for now. Might get back to it once the DLCs start coming out.
