I think most are missing the point. They're far too interested putting up clever quips to read anything but I'm glad I figured out the subtle moves of contractors. Obviously, anyone would think why pay the guy if you have a complaint like I have, but the fact is I did pay and this is what you're missing. I didn't want to pay. I was tricked and manipulated into paying. He's done it all before so he knows what I'm thinking and how to deal with me. He sets his traps to get his money.
The obnoxious people in the thread like to pretend that it's all simple, direct and easy. They have no problems in their lives or they get along with everyone. It's utter horseshit. People have different problems. Why it's so distasteful to them to discuss anything in a mature way, it's cause they so love to be clever little cunts on the internet. It's just so much fun they could do it all day and they do do it all day. Well I just like to talk about things even if I'm talking to myself.

Here's what a stupid fuck you are, Gorgon. Small claims court means I have to sue him in the town where he lives. That means I'll have to drive 30 miles and appear at a certain hour and prepare. All that involves more tension and work which I'm trying to avoid and my payoff if I win is what? Fifty bucks or a hundred bucks? It sucks. Like the annoying assholes have said, it's much simpler to just deduct the money from the bill but what they forget is it's easy to fuck up the job in subtle ways. I have to trust this guy. All he's got to do is let my cat out accidentally and then the cat is lost and people get upset. It might even get killed. If I go to court for that, what are they going to say? Too bad. It's the cat's fault for escaping not the contractor. I'd be lucky to get anything and if you love your pets you've lost a lot.

Thing is, you could have talked to him right after it happened. You wouldn't need to be agressive. You could just see wether he's really a passive-agressive jackass like you automatically assumed him to be, or if it wasn't on purpose.
