Although, do we need scripts even to simply end a level (conditions for victory)?
There would be no victory conditions, correct. My concern is that disallowing scripting will majorly reduce the potential quality of any FM this contest produces, with no real reason for it. It doesn't really make sense to restrict it in that way. All of the FMs will essentially have to be just a space that you jump into and walk through, with people walking around and stuff you can pick up. No objectives, no victory condition, no switches opening doors, no special events of any sort, etc. All you'll have is the basic core gameplay, which would make it hard to meaningfully differentiate between two FMs other than visually.

Considering the fact that's all I can do at the moment...I say GO FOR IT! :cheeky:

As long as trigger scripts are allowed and I don't get distracted by something shiny, I'm in. The deadline is on the second-last day of my next school holidays; excellent timing, Rantako, thankyou. :cheeky:
I'll also second Gestalt's question.

I just started on a mini level anyway, so rather than submitting it for the competition, I'll try get it done before the start date and see if I can guarantee the triggerscripts of a small level compile into the ibt.
I had a few customs, but somewhere on the big level they seem to have fallen out of the ibt and needed to be put in a /DynamicallyLoaded folder.
If it works, we know it works, and it means he comp entries could have custom scripts as well, so more objectives/interesting events can happen.
If it doesn't, at least we'll know.
And for a small misson might I suggest a maximum filesize as the limitor? Say a 25Mb ibt file (so bigger than some of the OMs, but smaller than some too), or about the size of the city sections?

Hm. Suggest then that custom scripts are allowed. To distribute them (I haven't confirmed but it works with NH's recent Minimalist release, if I understand correctly?), the scripts will simply need to be placed in the /content/T3/triggerscript/dynamicallyloaded folder.
I assume numbering of the scripts might, in rare cases (for now), require manually renaming/overwriting by a player, but that's nothing challenging.

No trigger scripts!
I'm certainly out. If I can't do my technical magic, there is no way I will participate. No shiny new technical systems= no fun for me.

New contest! Great idea! Go for it, guys! I'd love to play these first T3Ed missions. (And there is some probability that Krypt will participate...) :thumb:
But I'll probably enter new Komag's contest again. Size limitations make me more creative... ;)

Or, as I did with the latest version of minimalist...I changed it from the dynamically loaded folder to a custom name...that way you won't run into any conflicts. :)

:wot:
How exactly? I assume you mean, Minimalist has a /triggerscript/minimalist type of folder? And access to it is changed in an INI file? If so, that doesn't cause the standard game scripts to fail to execute?
Can you 'splain? :) This could be useful info for FMs.
Rantako on 2/6/2005 at 18:16
Aha!
So it has been figured out how to distribute trigger scripts?
If that's the case, then they're definitely in!
Also, I've realised the start date I said is a week on Saturday - it's actually supposed to be this Saturday (4 June) The closing date won't change - meaning the contest lasts 6 weeks, not 5.
Size restrictions - 25 meg .ibt files seems a good number. Means the contest missions can be up to about half the size of an OM - not too big, but not too small, either.
I've updated all this in the rules.
