Hello. The house is empty for a week so I decided to use our TV as a monitor (fancy playing stuff on a 40"). I can get the picture alright with the normal VGA cable, but I can't get sounds to play. Shouldn't it work with a normal RCA cable plugged from LINE-OUT to left-right speaker holes in the tv?
I got it working once already, but I have no idea why (I was away and when I came back it was miraculously working), yet due to closing the computer (or something) the sound is gone again.
We have home theater system, so the speakers are plugged into that.
If nothing works, can I get sound through HDMI?

Yes - but when I used it with my last TV I had to select the audio source manually. Are you sure the left / right speaker connections on the TV are inputs and not outputs?

Yes - definitely, as long as you have an HDMI output from your computer. Alternatively you can get DVI to HDMI adapters - but I've not used them with sound.
A S-Video + Sound to Scart adapter is a poor substitute to either of the above options, but is usually a doddle to set up.

Have tried to get this work whole day.
Okay,so, currently I have VIDEO and Audio going through HDMI, but I'm only using my TV speakers. The home theatre is without use. How could I get the sound from the home theatre/receiver like this? Should my computer have a second HDMI slot or can I somehow utilize the second HDMI output of the TV and run it to the receiver?
The receiver has only the aforementioned HDMI, SCART, Coaxial cable (assuming for radio), slots for speakers (own kind of cables) and two 3,5mm slots for audio in and headphones.

Take the RCA with an adapter and patch it into the 3.5 stereo and try that.

I thought your problem is that you couldn't get sound - is that now working?

A second HDMI slot? Some motherboards (and graphics cards) have HDMI outputs. What is this receiver you're talking about now?

You should be able to run the HDMI cable from the PC to the receiver, and the receiver should pass through the video to the TV and process the sound itself. It's possible, however, that you have one of the lower end receivers that doesn't do video passthrough. What kind of TV is it that you're using? Some of the newer Samsung models have a SPDIF out port that allows you to run an HDMI with audio signal straight to the TV, and then send the sound through SPDIF to the receiver.

Okay, I'll try to straighten things up.
TV is Sony Bravia 40"
Home theatre system is (
http://www.sony.lv/product/hcs-surround-kit---dvd-player/dav-dz230) Sony DAV-DZ230. The speakers are connected to this. This is connected via SCART to the TV.
My PC has one HDMI output, which is on the graphics card (The card as well as my soundcard support HDMI). I am currently using it, it being straightly connected to the TV. This works as intended for video and audio is through the TV speakers. My problem is that I would like to use the Sony DAV-DZ230 for audio, since the speakers are 5.1 and much better quality than the TV speakers.
Farfd is on the right course - So I should be able to connect my pc to Sony DAV-DZ230, which then should pass the video to the TV?

So your tv isnt hooked up to the reciever at all? All tvs (well almost all) have Aux-out on back. Ive got my tv volume at 0 and run the aux-out to cd-in on reciever, press the cd button and 10x better sound through stereo. If you tv has sound now it can be sent to stereo.
regarding 5.1 however... two cables out of back of tv (red white) i dont know.
