Hey all, I have a question about conjuration.
First, keep in mind that on my few times through Morrowind, I played a thief character, a fighter character and a destruction/restoration mage character, but never leveled conjuration on any of them, so I have no idea if conjuration was the same in Morrowind as it is in Oblivion.
That said, my current Oblivion character is a conjuration/destruction mage, and my conjuration is currently at about 75. I seem to recall in Morrowind, I could use scrolls to summon as many creatures simultaneously as I wanted.. it wasn't uncommon to have a small army assisting me on the harder fights. ;) But with Oblivion, it seems every time I try to summon a second creature, it just replaces the first one, even if I'm summoning a different creature type. Same thing happens if I cast a spell, then use a summoning scroll.
Is this intentional? Am I always going to be limited to only one summon at a time? Or am I missing something completely obvious? It's fine if they decided to tone down the amount of summons you could have for Oblivion, I guess I just want to make sure it was by design. :)

Maybe you're thinking of Gothic or some other RPG? As far as I can recall, Morrowind limited you to only one summoned creature at a time as well. Perhaps you had a mod installed that altered that rule?
/edit:
It seems Morrowind and Oblivion allow you to summon multiple creatures but you have to do so with ONE spell, meaning the spell has to specifically state "summon X creatures". Summoning a creature with a spell will negate any other spell effects you had cast previous to that one. I have no idea if Oblivion contains any spells that summon multiple creatures but I know that Morrowind had to have mods installed that included such spells (at least vanilla Morrowind did... never played the expansions).

Shit, remember Diablo II's Necromancer? LOL, I used to be one, and my friend and I used to laugh our asses off at my army of skeletons. You could have a crap load of conjured undead in D2.

Hmm, well, never once in Morrowind did I ever summon a creature by use of a spell, since I never leveled conjuration, but I know I was able to use multiple scrolls and have several minions at once. I never had any mods that allowed that specifically, but if one did it as an addition, I was never aware of it. Maybe Morrowind allowed multiple summons by use of scrolls only?
Based on your edit, Epos, I wonder if I could combine some of my summon spells into a custom spell to see if that works? I think I'll test that idea. :)

I've seen that there is a mod out for Oblivion to allow you to summon 2 at a time, or another mod to summon up to 10 at a time.

From what I remember, you can summon multiple things in Morrowind by having different copies of the summon spell. So if you cast the same spell twice, you would lose the original and get a replacement. If you have two different summon spells, you can have two summoned creatures out. I didn't really do much summoning in Morrowind though, so I could be wrong.

Yes, in Morrowind if you had four different spells that each summon a skeleton, then casting them in rapid succession would give you four skeletons running around. Useful if you had magicka to burn but not a high enough skill to summon more powerful critters. I once took out Umbra with a summoned mob of skeletons using that technique (along with a fist full of Restore Magicka potions).
In Oblivion casting a summoning spell negates any others that you've cast previously. I can see why they did that, but I find it annoying.

Ahh, okay, thanks everyone. Yeah, in Morrowind when I used scrolls, it was usually for different creatures, so I had multiples.
And for the record, when I tried to make a custom spell in Oblivion, once I added my first summon to the spell, all the rest of my summon spells were no longer available to add to the spell. So much for that idea. ;)
I think my main problem at the moment is that I can't seem to find any mid-range summon spells. I still have the same four summons I've had for ages (scamp, skeleton, ghost and zombie) and the only trainers/spell merchants I've run across want to sell me summon spells I either can't cast yet or haven't got enough magicka to cast. Argh! I'm sure I'll come across them eventually. ;)
