Surely you can't argue that the longhorns should have played in the BCS game? Playing TCU vs Boise is a bit yawn.
I wasn't really trying to argue for anything. There was that whole "(
http://texasbeatoklahoma.wordpress.com/) Texas (
http://texasbeatoklahoma.wordpress.com/about/) beat (
http://texasbeatoklahoma.wordpress.com/propaganda/) Oklahoma" uproar when UT beat OU and had a harder schedule, but OU got ranked ahead of them. It was more about people not liking the way the BCS system handled it than whether the end result was right or not ... Anyway that's all my point was about, how a lot of people felt.
And TCU vs Boise being a bit of a yawn is exactly what all my friends are so pissed off about, lol. This was TCU's great year in the sun, they felt a stone's throw away from the championship, and then after all that they get Boise ffs?

But seriously, the playoff system is a great idea, but how fucked is a sporting system that requires government intervention to tell it what everyone already knows? Obama to the rescue!
Can't argue with that. I agree.

Nah not a clue, but it's not an issue I've been paying any real attention to, beyond the fact that (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9Oo-HkUWcw) Joe Paterno wants to see a change.

On the flip side, how "fucked" is a government that feels the need to invervene itself in sports?
Governments have been intervening in sports since at least the Colosseum, and probably much earlier. It's not something I'm happy about - mostly they subsidize them, and I'd rather my tax dollars weren't spent in support of entertainment I don't want - but it's certainly a well-established pattern of behavior.

Minor edit. :cheeky:
That's all true, but our government was supposed to be based on the doctrine of enumerated powers, and it's hard to see how the power to regulate interstate commerce can be interpreted as the power to determine the rules of amateur sports leagues.
Rug Burn Junky on 12/12/2009 at 01:36
It's a multi-billion dollar industry run concurrently in every state in the nation. Hard to get much more "interstate commerce" than that.

This is the greatest thing ever. The more time Congress spends messing around with stuff like this, the less time they can spend fucking up things that I care about.
