WASHINGTON – Dismissing complaints from some members that Congress had more pressing matters, a House subcommittee approved legislation Wednesday aimed at forcing college football to switch to a playoff system to determine its national champion.
I think this is something that we can agree is congress going too far. There's no reason for them to regulate football. My personal suspicion is that somebody was a fan of a team that didn't get chosen as the national champion.

Hey, it's not your average american's fault that whoever created the game in the first place got his measurements mixed and used metric units for the width of the ball and imperial ones for its length.

Yes, this is one of those things where the gov't doesn't really belong. But the vote system does bite. There's always somebody feeling like they got robbed (we, UTexas, felt that last year; all my TCU friends feel it now), and with a playoff system, even with its own problems, at least you get the feeling that it's the games that are deciding your fate, not your popularity.

Honestly don't know what the House was thinking on this one. That said, it almost certainly won't pass, particularly given the negative press, and that's assuming it gets brought to a vote at all.

Surely you can't argue that the longhorns should have played in the BCS game? Playing TCU vs Boise is a bit yawn.
But seriously, the playoff system is a great idea, but how fucked is a sporting system that requires government intervention to tell it what everyone already knows? Obama to the rescue!

On the flip side, how "fucked" is a government that feels the need to invervene itself in sports?
I was hoping someone would come to the obvious conclusion that its unnecessarily intrusive legislation.
