I just don't get it, I MUST be missing something, I've read a lot of threads by people saying how easy this game is but I'm finding it really hard :(
Getting around is okay, and learning what to do next, but combat is really tough for some reason, what have I missed?
At the moment I'm in the family tomb that I was sent to by the Woman in the Mages guild, I just can't get past the skeletons!
Also when I was in the mine looking for the Puzzle box, I found the combat very hard to win, The guy right at the deepest part of the mine (where you jump over the lava) was unbeatable for me, as was the guy in the puzzle box room :(
All the fights so far have been leaving me at deaths door! I have a sabre that I can't remember where I bought it, and chitin armour.
This is probably going to embarrass the hell out of me when I find out I've missed something obvious to get my character stronger, but I feel like giving up, but I don't want to because it looks cool so far.
Thing is, this is the first game I've played of this kind, I'm a little overwhelmed, and as it said in a recent gaming magazine, this isn't for the first-time RPG player.
A little advice for a novice?

Don't get frustrated. If a guy is tough to beat then fight smaller guys till you level up some more and get some better armor and try again. You will always run up against tough guys if you try and move too quickly over an area or into a tougher area than you were meant to be in. Some places are meant to only go in so far then return and go deeper when you get more powerful. Have fun and save often. Take all the trolls that claim any thing is too easy.

Yeah, it takes long while to get your character powered up to take on tougher adversarys. Stealing stuff and staying close to town -- near your trainers and fences -- seems to be the only way to get ahead of the game. Find one or two skills (Major or Minor )your really good at and level up your character by stealing and buying training. Once you get you strength up you can start doing some of the easy quest and walking out of town. Keep some money for stilt riders or join the mages guild and get a cheaper rate to some of the cities. Steal everything you can to power up your guy with training and keep leveling up (Major & Minor skills only). It's best if you don't steal from your fences and own guilds. Once you get your guy leveled up you can start working on your misc skills. Try going to level 10 before you start any hard quest -- I'm on Level 24 but have done very little hard questing.

Just read about the Robe of St Roris,
Where is it? I want that!!

I would recommend this game for any new RPg player to start off with..
At the beginning of the game you can make it very challenging for yourself, as you have the option to take on the hardest stuff at first, about halfway through my playing, even the hardest was... easy(level 20ish)
Keep chugging away, it gets easier.
As for the Robe, don't use it, it makes the game too easy =D

think you want it, but really you dont. It makes the game difficulty zero <small>(If thats how you like to play then all the more power to ya, but don't get any sympathy from me when you tell us "this game is too easy"</small>. You would also never make it in the first place, as its in a cave with medium-high level monsters. The guys you're fighting now - and losing against - are very easy to beat. Until you grow stronger you'll just have to learn to run when you know you'll get beat :)

What??? That makes no sense at all.
console command
player->additem"robe of st roris"3 gives you three of those robes, one to hand in at the quest, one to wear and a spare for when the other one is in the laundry.
But if I were you, I wouldn't look for the robe but keep playing and keep feeling overwhelmed. That's the best part.

See, and that's why battlemage clearly owns you all.

Nonsense. I took my old thief out of the closet and loaded the offical arrow mod. Lord Almighty, after stealing the daedra bow and as many arrows I could carry, I'm waxing anything right now. At level 10.
Seriously, making it possible to steal a daedra bow in an official mod is just silly. What's worse is the possibility to pick the chicks chest of (no, bad boy)... arrows and get away with 600 of them. 5 - 15 over 5 seconds + bow dmg. Don't even need to hit with the silly things, you can just aim them at the floor or walls and kaboom. Mages? Useless!

It's so easy to exploit using bows, they really shouldn't be in the game until Morrowind can fully approach a guy on a bed shooting a bow at you.
