Confused about game path.. (spoilers) - by Saam

Don't get me started on Yantar lab. That crazy place fucked up my mind for good in real life.

The underground bits were easily the best in the game, so it seems a shame miss any of them out.

Another thing I am having difficulty with is the actual difficulty of the game- my game mode is set to like the 'normal' difficulty but I am finding myself reloading over and over again because:
a) I am exploring a new area and all of a sudden a guy one/two-shot kills me
b) I try to go back to previous areas to turn in quests, trade weapons, etc, and notice when I backtrack there are baddies everywhere so my only option is to either be in a firefight until my ammo runs out (not much ammo!) or just sprint my way through them (running out of energy drinks as well!)
Is everyone else finding the game damn hard? It really isn't a good design choice as it breaks the immersion- System Shock handled this perfectly with the rez chambers, and Deus Ex's game system was designed so you can take damage without dying abruptly, which helped in not reloading so often.

Just make use of a lot of cover and go for headshots, and loot all the bodies afterwards for more ammo. Shouldn't be too bad. It's also possible to sneak around the enemies a lot of times.

Enemies everywhere when backtracking isn't the case in all the areas, Garbage and Cordon are especially bad about that later in the game but the rest are quite bearable.
Just hang in there, I was having a bloody hard time as well, I was to the point of giving up when in Agroprom. I took a few days off the game and when I came back I was at full strength ready to take on the story. And guess what? The same day I stole the military documents I thought was undoable.
So just do what you think fits your situation best. If you see enemies and you don't have good enough weapons to do a headshot with a few bursts from a rapid fire weapon, just sprint like hell to avoid getting it. I still do that just because killing them is impractical or I'm plain lazy. They respawn anyways so killing them would be pointless.

Try to keep below the 50kg carry cap. If you do this and use a decent stamina upgrading artifact you should be able to sprint whenever you need to. Find a nice central spot where you can stash all your excess loot (the chest in the bar for example) and only take with you what you need. Don't bother carrying around 20 medkits, 50 bandages and hundreds of bullets as they will only weigh you down and they are also fairly easy to come by.

And after heavy fights, empty your entire inventory into that box except a gun and some ammo. Then go to the area and collect all the guns and also loot the bodies. For the more powerful guns you see later in the game, you can get over 3000 RUs for trading a single one. :)
The fight against the Monolith near the Freedom base earned me thousands and thousands of RUs to name an example.

As far as the backtraking problem is concerned, the patch should fix the spawn rate, otherwise there is an easy solution to the problem.
As for the fear factor in this game, as Bjossi said, wait until you get to Yantar. That place is not only scary. It's damn crazy, sick, horrible. That area is supposed to drive you crazy and you can feel it tries so hard you just want to get out of there.
I'm on my second "serious" run through the game and I reached the point where I have to go to Yantar (and not just hang out on the outskirts) and I've been delaying the moment for almost a week now. Every excuse is good to not to go there.

I was in Yantar at 4 AM few days ago, you can only imagine how my head was inhaling the atmosphere. :o
I wanted to stop and take a break so badly, but that damn place was so crazy that I wanted to see what happened next all the time.

Speaking of Yantar, always wondered whats the difference between a calibrated and non-calibrated Psy helmet (Besides of dropping his healthy habit of not rushing everything with some puny pistol and getting in my way my Kruglov also suddenly got cutscene allergy and after i awoke in the bus he was dead, so i got yelled at and only received an uncalibrated one). More time in the Brain Room? No wonky vision and freaky voices (that would suck tho ^^ )?
