Not really. A defective RAM stick can cause a lot of problems, and the exact nature of the problem may very well be determined by the RAM slot in which the defective stick is located. I had such a case once.
Then, I once had two RAM sticks which had to work together, but which were different and thus could not work together (at least in theory). This setup worked flawlessly for about six weeks, then suddenly the computer did not boot up anymore, not even after several tries.
In many cases where RAM sticks were dying, the BIOS' RAM check before booting did
not detect anything unusual.
Such are the wonders of RAM technoloy...;)
