But with Soma you can enter the brain room invisible, choose a nice spot, and kill the brain using soma transfer without even having to destroy the stars.
Sort of cheating, but at the same time it isn't? Cool. :D:p

I don't see why should it be considered cheating... Soma just does what it normally does: draining the life energy of a living thing.

Yeah, but from a gameplay point of view, you are supposed to destroy the stars first.
This is probably just a shortcut for the OSAs. :)

More like it's the beauty of differing skill specialisations.

I just finished SS2, that was awesome to experience again. The last level sort of lets SS2 down a little, from The Body of the Many into Cyberspace, it's just a little bit weak and the whole thing denegrades into more of a mindless shooter than anything else. I must admit to not finding the psi-amp to be very useful beyond the anti-entropy psi and the invisibility psi. But where it was useful, it was invaluable - I practically ran through the entirety of BOTM invisible, which I remember being a very painful experience first time around when I was Navy. I also used anti-entropy from around recreation onwards.
So to discuss the ending a little - SHODAN was destroyed by goggles but hinted at a greatness that she sought to unleash (when she was backed into a corner) and I take it that manifestation of "efficiency" was what we saw in Rebecca at the end? What are we to take from this? That Rebecca was SHODAN in the flesh? Or was she a new breed of cyborg - controlled by a human consciousness merged with AI to an extent that they are indistinguishable?
I guess the only reason I'm interested in this is because of the possible sequel, which I'm kind of amazed that there's so little buzz about. I realise at once that it's EA and also there's Bioshock on the way, but this is the potential to carry on this particular franchise. My only wish is that I wasn't so jaded that I couldn't play SS1, if only I'd played it back in the day. :(

As I understand it, SS3 is not 100% confirmed, and there's no material available yet for people to comment on. Anything you see about the game is mere speculation, and hence not worth much.
Scots Taffer on 22/10/2006 at 08:59
Yeah, it has been informally announced at least. Industry insiders have openly commented on its existence and know of it, although details are pretty much a moot point until it's assigned a developer. However, I was inviting speculation (although there are probably a hundred threads that do the same) on the ending of SS2. Also, I'm curious... what was Rebecca at the end? Is MEDUSA the next evolution of AI? ;)

I think she looked like a Shodan image like you see in the end fight.
