And to be fair, 200 planes divebombing new york would be fucking spectacular to watch.
"...they can't all be trying to land on the hudson, surely?"

What amazes me is the comments on the page dethtoll linked to. The anti-ad people seem so... dumb. So many illogical progressions its bizarre; its like knights-move thinking.
Because people want someone to blame, and terrorist attack is such a thing, there's always a possibility for REVENGE by killing the people who did it etc. It's always Someone Else doing the bad thing.
But people don't like to be reminded that it would be good for everyone, now and especially in the future, if you sold your Humvee and got a smaller car or even commute instead of owning a car, and maybe do some other little sacrifices in your own comfy life to lessen the burden on environment.
(And saying stuff like that is also heretic from the viewpoint of economics.)

I think the ad would be fair if the message was that relief donations should not stop at a country border and that american people should get the 9/11 shit out of their eyes, realizing that countries having suffered catastrophes everywhere deserve at least as much time / money than the building of a fucking memorial.
But I have to say that, presented as it is, the whole "respect the earth yo or it will destroy you like 10,000 terrists" is rather stupid.
EDIT : Also the 9/11 song has been played far enough already (by the governments all around the world first and foremost) so that we can go a little further than just calling the picture "insensitive", please.

My point was no one is saying this.
And my point is that's exactly what they're saying.

In that case they are trying to make it a contest.

A tragedy is a tragedy- saying "my tragedy is bigger than yours" just makes you look like an asshole.
Hmm. I'd say an earthquake that kills 100k is a bigger tragedy than one that kills 1k. Cold hard numbers can seem callous but at some point (and it's a very fuzzy one)... I couldn't ignore 3 orders of magnitude.
But where this seems a bit iffy to me is, it isn't a comparison of tragedies of a similar nature. 9/11 wasn't just shocking because it was a loss of life, it was one brought about by man's capacity for fanaticism and utter inhumanity.
