...a flame war ensued and all was burnt to a crisp.
:(
Sinfest's (I know, webcomic, stfu) still pretty much amusing, although it's more in the "awwww...*chuckle*" category for me than actual loling.

Mutts is pretty unreadable, don't get me wrong, but the art is fantastic.

Heh, I thought this thread seemed familiar- I recognized your style from (
http://ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84269) a previous thread of yours a while back.
I agree, the comics you find in the paper are utter shit. Internet = no need to keep it family friendly = Cyanide & Happiness, PBF, and the like. Those are the only comics I find funny, because of the very twisted humor they use. Is that a bad thing?

Most things needing to be said here have already been said. Still:
Berke Breathed's new Opus Sunday strips are still very good. He even got censored last summer. Happy days are here again. The artwork is greater than ever, too.
I wouldn't really recommend Nemi to AR at all. It's really conventional in most ways.
Pearls Before Swine is frequently quite scathing, however. Capturing the zeitgeist, etc.
Mutts is a feel-good strip - it's about capturing a mood. If you're not in the mood, it'll likely do nothing for you.
xkcd is my current favorite international strip, but is disqualified in this debate on grounds of its non-newspaper distro.

Yeah, most of AR Master's rant is misguided as it more or less deliberately ignores the context in which these comics are created. He's not exactly the target demographic for Mutts, for example.
Having said that, Andy can't write a bad rant and for that he should be celebrated.
