PBF isn't in the newspaper, and is only funny maybe like 10% of the time.
You really are going to be ignored from now on.
Aja on 14/3/2008 at 01:36
10% is a good figure -- I flipped through ten or so comics, and only one made me laugh out loud. PBF is not so much funny as just... icky.

I don't categorise comics by lol value, because so little in text makes me laugh - I'm more of a smiler than a laugher at text humour. Personal thing, I guess.

If that's your criteria, then yeah, Perry is a cut above. But I laughed out loud at that Cul-de-sac with the owl.

I've been almost totally weened off of newspaper style comics and just read graphic novel types anymore. It's to the point I can't get how much of anything can be crammed into 3 panels. Of course I can appreciate a good, funny comic like PBF, but it just doesn't have much staying power; it's just a shot then the moment's passed.
It started with Japanese comics, being a handy way to practice my Japanese reading -- Lupin III, Blade of the Immortal, Cowboy Bebop -- but then I started getting into the Western ones -- Cerebus the Aardvark, Jason's comics ... (generally I'm liking more indie ones; not so much the "sensational" ones that get movies made from them like Sin City or 300 ... and superhero comics don't do anything for me). The whole mindset in reading them is different from newspaper comics; you aren't looking for any punchline. It's usually a story that you're following, and it's more just getting caught up in the thread of the narrative and absorbing its art and its world. But some of them, like Jason's, are pretty clever and funny and have a great style.

I lost track of AR Master's meta irony when he was a Trenchcoat'd peeping tom.

Is all the effort you spent getting mad about a stupid thing like comics worth it? Just chill out and put the damn thing down after reading Bizarro (by Piraro!).

I love you Andy.
I love you like I love a sleepy sheep.

I can't believe the cloned meat plot bothers you more than WHATEVER THE FUCK THAT BLACK AND WHITE THING IS SUPPOSED TO BE
Even in comics I expect a minimum artistic standard and that thing just pees all over it
You can't possibly be talking about Mutts, which is one of the best drawn comics in newspapers today.
