The "Where am I?" level uses the exact same textures as SS1, at the same resolution.
In fact, the SS2 versions are palettised and very slightly
worse quality.
The original textures from SS1 used palettes as well (thats how they did the beserk patch hallucination effect). But the main reason I posted was to say that it would be great if there was some sort of repository of models and textures, that way there will at least be a slow progression to an upgrade of SS1, and it might inspire more programers to take up the challenge.
As some of u probably know, I'm also doing a remake of SS1, though I'm making my own engine from scratch. I was planning of setting something up like this once I got a playable version going using the original data, but as I stated above, it would be a step in the right direction to getting a finished remake of the game. As for the issue of stuff not matching up, if there are several different versions of each texture/model, the best can be picked, or another artist can update some to look more fitting, in the end, it will look awsome.

I mean the SS2 versions were re-palettised again, because they seem to use slightly fewer colours than the originals. I'm not sure how they managed to mis-palettise them if they all used the same palette, but it seems they did - the quality is noticably worse if you look closely.
Really? I never noticed that.

EDIT: Hmmm, now this is interesting. Most of the SS1 textures in FAM\SHODAN do appear to be imported directly, but some of the wall tiles look like they've been redrawn from scratch. Check out this comparison shot:

kodan50: I mentioned the "where am I?" level, as it has roughly half of the medical level from SS1 in it, with fully higher res textures.
I knew that, actually I posted this last night when I was really tired (I need to remember not to do that) so I kinda gave it thought that I should have given it a better name.., but yes, please post the pictures if you don't mind...
As for the pictures looking all different, I also have that a lot of thought too, for now thou, I wont worry about it, im just going to put the textures up on my site, for other people, as well as myself, then see what would work best for my project.

well this thread is working out well... I hope to get responses soon. Im working on a web site for Half-Shock at the moment, when I am done with the texture cache, I will begin noting all textures I locate, and I will also try to get the artists names to go along with them, that will be my first part of the project, once that is complete, then I will go with models as soon as I get some I can utilize...

I never noticed that the SS2 versions of the textures were of same low quality as the originals. I was too busy walking around the level, in evil glee the first time round lol. And the textures were of "good enough" quality that I never really noticed.

SS1 and SS2 used the same resolution for the overwhelming majority of their terrain textures.
This either speaks well of SS1, or poorly for SS2. I can't quite decide.

Im about half-way done with my texture cache portion of the site. Really all I need now is a Half-Shock logo image, and learn to do frames, then I should be set. Actually I will put a request on my other thread...

I suspect they planned to redraw the whole lot, but realised they weren't going to make it in time to ship and that the effect could be achieved acceptably well with the originals. That would also explain the slightly incompatible palette used for the set.
