Coffee Prices on the rise. - by metal dawn

Just kidding, fuck this newsgroup bullshit. This is CommChat, not the motherfucking Guardian.
That aside, I fucking love coffee and wonder if anyone has a preferred brand and, by extension, any suggestions on what to try.
I'm think of trying a cup of fresh-ground GETTING OUT myself. How is that, by the way? Because I don't want to waste any effort and regret it later.
Quick, before I crash again. :(

I've got no idea as to brands... I have zero brand loyalty with most things, coffee included.
Coffee's a peculiar and particular thing for me. Most of the time I drink instant, but that's because I haven't the patience to brew a proper pot when all I want is SUGAR AND CAFFEINE NOW NOW NOW in the mornings.
For the most part I favour Indonesian coffees. Dark roasted, smokey and chocolatey.
After dinners, though, I have usually enjoyed northern and eastern African beans... Ethiopian medium roasts especially. I've never had much more than mild appreciation for the South and Central American beans, however. Colombian is bog-standard, there are some nice Mexican coffees out there (especially if the roast is light and the beans are conscientiously grown), and Brazillian / Peruvian coffee just reminds me of how much better Kenyan or Tanzanian does the exact same thing.
Given only one choice, I'd go with a Sumatran Grade 1 Dark Roast. Triple-Pick is nicer in terms of the way it looks, feels, and smells, but in my opinion you can do Indonesian coffee a great insult by overprocessing / overpreparing it. I want it to taste like damp wood and orangutan, goddammit. If I didn't want that undergrowth undertone in my coffee, I'd drink Blue Mountain.

If you're looking for a quick caffeine high, I recommend Giant Food, Inc. Coffee. It's cheap, it gets the job done, and it tastes pretty good.
Nothing beats fresh ground, though. Use a hand grinder (preferably an old fashioned one). The automatic ones kind of ruin the coffee experience. Just make sure you put the grinds in the frigidaire to preserve the flavor (fresh ground or store-bought).
Of particular note:
1)Decaf and instant coffee are forbidden.
2)pick a cup (any cup) and make it your favorite coffee cup. After you drink coffee from it, rinse it out, wash the outside BUT DON'T WASH THE INSIDE. The coffee stains inside the cup increase the flavor of your next cup, the cup after that, and so on. This methodology and rule also applies to the coffee pot.
3)Ladies may, in their discretion, use cream and/or sugar to enhance their coffee experience. Gentlemen must drink their coffee black. No exceptions.
Failure to abide by these rules will result in no coffee nirvana for you.

Maxwell House - GOOD TO THE LAST DROP!!!! but honestly, I usually buy whatever's cheapest. My freind said he grinds his own and it's alot better than anything you can buy in the store. He also mentioned that the coffee from Columbia isn't as good as the Coffee from Brazil or something, can't exactly remmember. ROCK ON COFFEE!
Anyone else think anything besides black, sugarless coffee is kinda nasty? to quote Tom Clancy..."Drink it naked to get the caffeen full force!"

Starbucks all the way.
No I'm not a hippie or the typical young artist type addicted to Starbucks.
Leave me alone.

Starbucks all the way.
I never wanted to drink a Starbucks because I was opposed to their aggressive marketing strategies (do I really need to see four fuckin' Starbucks within a square mile area of a city?), then one day I happened to be accompanying a friend who was buying a coffee and I answered their Question of the Day (Lucasarts games question) to bag a free cup of today's brew. It was the most foul and unrepetently burnt coffee I've ever tasted in my life, it tasted like cigarette butts marinated in piss with hot water added. I threw it in the bin after the second sip confirmed the horrors of the first and I've vowed never to set foot in another Starbucks, and I never have.
Fuck Starbucks, all the way.

(
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamaican_Blue_Mountain_Coffee) Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee is the stuff of the gods. Apparently only financial gods can afford to buy it at about $30 a pound, or more. I bought a pound of it 2 months in a row, and loved it a lot. I think it was $35 when I bought it. :(
edit- looks like it's about $40 a pound or more now! Crap!
I used to scoff at Starbucks people. But I tried it on a whim once when it was the only coffee in sight. I've never had a bad cuppa joe from there. I did once have a bad tasting Chai tea, and it was promptly returned with a new cup of something caramel tasting (macchiato?) I just usually get a latte, it's simple and delicious.

Should have tried the dark chocolate covered coffee beans, Scots. I can eat those until I'm humming like a high tension wire in a hurricane.
