Even if you make your own tomato sauce, you would have sugar as there is naturally around 3-4g per 100g. And most good chefs will add sugar also to balance out the acidity.
US ketchup though is bottled bullshit.

I was talking about
my Heinz ketchup.
Which is what, exactly?

I mean... By weight... And given
no significant fiber, protein or fat... It's pretty bad. Not as bad as normal ketchup, obviously. Unless you use 3x as much.

What is your point though? The stuff you get in the UK (and Australia) is very different, in flavor profile and sugar content. No one is eating condiments for their health benefits.
well unless its kimchi.

My point originally was that ketchup is pretty bad, there's way better alternatives if you want to add flavour and/or moisture to something. Mustard obviously, but chutney's good also and it has texture(s) too, plus it's not as liquid so it's less likely to come squirting out the other side of your sandwich when you bite into it.
Kimchi is delicious.

Chutney can be delish. I had a small pot of sweet mango chutney recently with fried chicken, oh my goodness. Heavenly.
But I'll have ketchup in my burgers along with caramelized onions and other goodies first it's very tasty and second I don't care you can't shoot me I'm in Europe :p

It's not like you're drinking a 32 oz. Big Gulp of ketchup. A tablespoon of ketchup has a lot less sugar than a lot of crap you eat every day. A tablespoon of ketchup may have more sugar than a chocolate chip cookie, but it's still only a 1/3 of the calories. And how often do you eat just one cookie?

Ketchup is fine on a burger (on french fries and baked potatoes I prefer mayonnaise like a stereotypical Dutch person), but in the Netherlands we also have a type of spicy ketchup called curry (not to be confused with curry as in Asian curry dishes), which I prefer to regular ketchup. I eat it on burgers and some types of pork and it can even be eaten with macaroni (not on top of a tomato sauce but there are spice mixes for macaroni with which it combines well) though many would disagree on that last part.

Curry sausage (Currywurst) is a staple of German cuisine by the way. Try it if you ever visit Germany.

You probably don't have real food where you live if local ketchup is that bad. Of course Americans do tend to put 5 gallons of High Fructose Corn Syrup in everything, which is a great way to make food unfit for human consumption.

Thank you for doing your part to erode the little remaining faith in humanity.
Mayo is an abomination and should be illegal. I was traumatized as a child whose mother put mayo on everything and forced us to eat baloney sandwiches dripping with the stuff. I should probably still be in counseling.
;);) Lmao

I'm sorry, folks. Mayo is made from the ass parts of the egg, and tastes terrible. You all know it's true.
