I thought the characters were very believable, but the important thing is that there were actually some very intense moments in this movie. This isn't like other monster movies in which everybody is suddenly a survival expert and scientists have near-clairvoyant knowledge of their subjects based on bits and pieces. Also, the shaky cam didn't bother me at all, fortunately. Some of the 'information' (more like misinformation) about this movie that's out there is way off. Unless you're hell-bent on digging around for factual info, you shouldn't have any trouble steering clear of spoilers for optimal viewing experience. The only thing is, once you see this in the theater, I'm not sure if you'd want to get the DVD later. It's not exactly re-watchable, in my opinion.

And how many people do you think have seen the original PatLabor OVA series to get that quote?
WTF??

Probably not as many as have seen Gojira.
At least someone got it.
This reminds me, I forgot to watch Godzilla vs Mothra the other day. :(

WTF??
Not having seen Gojira, that is where I have first seen that quote. Should have known, given the general piss-take nature of the episode 'The 450 million year old trap', that it was quoting Gojira itself. Point still stands, pretty obscure quote. :)

I never saw the whole film with the OXYGEN DESTROYER, but as a kid I watched the movie from the scene where it was explained, RELEASED, and until the credits, so I figured that was the reference.:cheeky:
The_Raven on 31/1/2008 at 01:25
IIRC, the oxygen destroyer isn't even introduced in the movie until half-way through anyway.

Yep. I jumped right in and knew it was a 'Zilla movie before they said the name. Saturday morning, late '70's, black & white television, no cable, fine-tuned with an analogue knob, antenna, location of the set and my relative position, watching the last half of the movie on the excellent program "The World Beyond".

What I want to know is, how the Oxygen Destroyer stripped all the skin off Godzilla's bones. It sounds more like it should have just choked him to death or something. But the sight of seeing his skelelton at such a young age probably scarred me for life.
Come to think of it, watching the shark get blown to bits at the end of "Jaws" was pretty traumatizing also. Esp. because I really loved sharks when I was a kid.

Yeah that was weird.
Are we ready for Cloverfield 2? Rumor has it it's the same story from an entirely different perspective.
HipBreaker on 1/2/2008 at 08:20
Meh....90% of the hype it got was wanting to know what it looked like. Cloverfield 2 wouldn't have that hype.

I had a ball and hearing the last bit -after- the credits makes me want to see a 2nd one (that will probably be utter crap compared to this one).
I do wish they'd kept whale-cthulhu combo monster...
