Did anyone catch Elvis Costello's program, Spectacle, with Bill Clinton as the guest?
It was wonderful to see a leisurely, one-hour conversation, instead of the typical late night, five-minute sound bite. It was also nice to see an interview that was not hostile, digging for fresh dirt.
Clinton spoke of the importance of music education and his own experience with music as a boy and a young man. He said he had more music scholarships than academic ones and that he doesn't think he could have become president without the mental, emotional, disciplinary, conceptual, perceptual and affirming qualities a participatory love of music gave him.
He remarked on the importance of music for sustaining hope in people engaged in drawn out struggles against a host of troubles around the world, and of how music is a healing and unifying human expression.
And a whole lot more.
I came away with a new respect for Bill Clinton.
And for Elvis.

I saw a short clip from that Last Days vid on Conan some years ago. The part where Hillary forgets her lunch. I thought it looked campy as hell. The full video isn't bad though, I chuckled. :)

Its funny, Clinton is becoming like Carter, per se. Both have done better, and accomplished more, outside the office.

Thanks for the video link, demagogue. I thought it was pretty funny, coming from a sitting president.
One thing he mentioned in the Spectacle interview was how disoriented he felt in the days after retiring, for lack of a certain musical cue. For eight years, every time he went somewhere even vaguely important, he heard Hail To The Chief, and he really knew it was really over when his entrances elicited dead silence instead.
If you didn't see the program mentioned in the OP you might be able to (

catch it here when it is posted.
There's also a bungh of other great stuff there, including
