Clicking on advertisements... - by thief0

Clicking on banners and ads supports TLLG???
you mean, ttlg makes money if we just click on an ad?
How does that work???

Advertisers pay google, ttlg shows google's ad, google gets payed, ttlg gets payed.
I have my firewall block anything from googlesyndication.com (google's ad server) so i don't have to look at the stupid ads. "Buy System Shock here!" - yeah right. or... "Help Cambodian Refugees" or whatever it is... i'd sooner make a donation to TTLG...;)

I thought Google ads were meant to be relevant to the website they displayed on?

They are, although when you put them on forums they try to be relevant to the topic of the thread which is a little more challenging for the software as forums are mostly chatter, unlike a review site for example.

Thats cool. getting payed to show ads.
isn't there any way i can set up a simple web site and get paid to show ads?

There are lots of ways, but the key is to have a site that people will want to visit. If it's just something like HELO MY FUTURE GIRLFRIENDS HERE IS THIEF0S PAGE THESE ARE SOME GIFS I STOLE FROM OTHER SITES AND WALKTHROUGHS THAT EVERYONE ALREADY CAN FIND ...
Not that your site would necessarily look like that, but crappy personal sites aren't likely to be accepted for ads, let alone generate any revenue. If you come up with something interesting, then go for it.

however, isn't it somewhat controlled? I mean like, what if someone keeps on clicking on the ads like mad? would the advertisers have to pay for all those clicks??

Hey Mods:
May I suggest a little pop-up when we fist sign in, over the next week or so, as a reminder to click on stuff every once in a while. I would not mind a reminder now and then. I honestly doubt any of the regulars would object to this either. I mean, we should give somethign back, right?
