Maybe they cut them because they ultimately bring nothing to the game(Well okay they do - anomalies reshuffle, but vanilla had static anomalies). First few Blowouts are omg awesome, then they're just okay, finally they become just something that forces you to stand still and do nothing for several minutes(Which can be up to a hour in the game if you didn't tweak the time).
They come with one day warning, after they come you have more than enough time to get to cover, and the "AI runs to cover" feature is ultimately wasted because there's plenty of cover to go around and all AIs have their own hiding places - they never actually fight for the cover which is supposed to be the whole point.

I don't think something "not adding to the game" in those concrete terms is a big part of their philosophy. Anyway, atmosphere is adding to the game. Knowing that one is coming changes how I plan and travel, but I've been caught out and it's quite scary. I've seen a few battles too; guy'll have to shoot their way into a train car or something. I think every 30hrs, give or take small random factor, would be the bare minumum time you'd want between them though, rather than the maximum, if they were in vanilla. More like once every four or five days or something.
No, I reckon they took them out thinking they were problematic somehow (cover is a bit quirky). But they seem pretty solid in AMK, ignoring frequency for a moment.

Sig 550 fully modded for accuracy is excellent. All the others have got problems. I feel really sorry for the Vintorez it was my favorite in the Shoc, I guess everyone else feels the same about it too. And yeah, the Dragunov is a must have in this game whilst you could probably live well without it in the previous one.

In SoC, my favorite for the most part of the game was Groza. And in CS I didn't feel that weapons of a given caliber differed much, they all had basically same stats. I prefer SoC weapons much more.

Yeah it's a cool weapon but eats ammo like nothing and has a small mag, I prefer even the SA Avalanche to it anytime. If you can improve the mag to 30 maybe, then yes, it could be a v good choice for indoors/underground battles(a Spas can be equally good for that) but other than that nothing beats the Vintorez/G36 combo especially when dealing with the Army guys. The G36 I even prefer it to the FTM... Plus the ammo used by Groza is quite heavy...
I guess it's up to how one likes to play finally, I certainly prefer distance shots since it keeps my armor like an Armani.

I used a maxed out (accuracy) AK-74 with scope the entire game. Kept an LR300 and a Vintorez as backup weapons later in the game, but didn't really use them - the AK was good for everything.

What about that special AK-74 you get through a "random" quest in Cordon? At my first time around I simply gave it back(since not having a failed quest matters to me much more than anything), on my second playthrough I planned to also give it back but then lure some baddies to kill the Stalker for me. But I gave up on the game before I left the Swamps.
How good is it? Can it be upgraded?

Is that the antique AK-47? I think it's massively powerful and uses dragunov rounds but I somehow doubt that you can upgrade it at all and I'm pretty sure it's no better than a raw AK-74 for stats other than accuracy.

That's correct.
