Is there a reason you're running AMK instead of Oblivion Lost? I was under the impression the later was just a continuation of AMK, lots of borrowed elements. That one is nifty, but totally messes up the difficulty curve. It's brutal as all hell at first, but thanks to artifact modding, I ran through Chernobyl with the knife since I was bulletproof.
Well, I was running a mash-up of STALKER Redux / ABC / Bardak's Bug Fixes + a dozen other minor gameplay tweaks, then decided to try a more "professional" mod. Looked at both OL and AMK, and decided to go with the less radical revision. Still, I've tweaked a few minor aspects in AMK --- but I'm happy with it.

Patch fixed the capture issues (now the Stalkers captured the Garbage entry points before i even got there) but i think the whole thing needs another on the balancing side coz ,surprise, the Garbage has bandit zerg problems. I killed off everything at the depot (their main base) and a minute later while im heading back to do some returning theres a message from the Stalker boss "Bandits are back, no clue why" and plop the whole damn 23+ people outfit including surrounding posts is back at full strength (same thing happens with the Cordon military base. You go away for just a sec and theyre all back. One time after i killed em all i went for some stash nearby and the turbo-reinforcements manned the bloody MG and nailed me. Wish that thing could be destroyed) and craps out two attack squads in a row obliterating the flea market and another two for each of the entries. Didnt look very "defeated" to me.
While I've been mostly enjoying the game so far, this part really kinda spoiled some of my fun. Just sloppy scripting to have them just magically respawn instantly. Apparently if you head over to Agrapom first and wipe out all the Bandits there then go around and clear out every single bandit camp in Garbage quickly and then assault the base and take them all out you can permanently clear out the Depot, but IMHO its just a waste of time and ammo. Plus getting ready to assault the base only to discover a small camp has respawned on the edge of the map made me want to put a hole in my computer. The only real reason to deal with factions at all is to get better deals buying and selling gear.
Bugs haven't really been a major problem for me though. The biggest culprit seems to be corrupted save games, so I just have several saves I rotate between depending on what area I'm in and I haven't had any problems. One time I did have my weapons automatically holstered after receiving a message only to find I was unable to use them and had to load up a save, but no biggie.
Despite the gripes the game its a lot of fun though and should only get better once the bugs get fixed and the mod community starts to really pull out this game's potential.

1.5.04 is supposed to fix that, have you installed it?

Ok I'm at garbage now and having fun again finally, Cordon was really boring as expected. Some quests are bugged also.
Gun fights in early game between 1. your crappy gun and suit and 2. military + berry suit + ak is just tedious. I've had at least 2 double knockouts already. Shooting at them is like shooting at a sponge, there's not tactile feedback and they keep shooting despite being shot at. It was true for stalker and it's true for cs. God I can't wait to get better guns already.

Are there sections in the game that go for exploration rather than all-out warfare? This was one of the things I didn't like too much about the original game - I would have preferred more exploration and less gunplay. It's the thing that almost ruined Pripyat for me.

I guess they decided to add more action to CS because people complained that maps were "empty", and there weren't enough rewards for exploring. I don't agree about emptiness of the maps in SoC, but I do agree about rewards part. So I'm half-satisfied and half-dissatisfied with CS. From the one hand, it has much more people and gunplay with people, which I absolutely don't like; from the other hand, it rewards you for exploration much more than SoC - if you explore, you more often can find rare things, or side quests, plus almost every white-blue metal box you encounter now contains some ammo/items, and wooden boxes often too. F.e. I read it's possible to find Vintorez right in the Swamp, it's laying in the grass somewhere at the railway carriages. Try to guess who was its owner :) Also, they say some rare artifact lays in some "burrow" at north-west corner of the map.

Actually, it's not that hard to "clean" Pripyat totally, you just need to be patient. I even think it's less populated than any other map, enemies won't re-spawn until you enter the stadium. Anyway, with or without Monolithians, as for me Pripyat is a very eerie place, love it.

Yup. I had a quicksave go corrupt on me it seems, I just reloaded an older save and started rotating my save files and quit using quicksave and haven't had any issues since. I suppose it could have been some other fluke CTD bug that got me and not the save files, but to be safe I think using several save files is probably a good idea anyways.

Yeah I found a Vintorez really early on. Granted I had almost no ammo for it for some time so its pretty much useless.
I think once they (or somebody from the mod community) fix the issues with faction gameplay it will add something to the game. You can always stay neutral with everyone if you don't want to participate, which adds some nice elements of choice to the game. Staying neutral with everyone gives you safe passage through most areas, but you won't necessarily get the best deals on gear if you don't side with somebody and start boosting your reputation with them.
Like SoC though I think its going to be up to the community to dig in and bring out the full potential of this game.

You're crazy :eww: Pripyat was awesome I wish it were longer and much harder (underground level, more intense fighting). God I wish there was "all out war." I'm hoping Limansk will top Pripyat.
Swamp/Cordon/Garbage, so far everything's just like the old stalker. Faction wars are only for if you join a faction. And so far the "wars" have been anything but "all out." It's just ai playing capture and hold, and old maps like Cordon and Garbage are too flat and open for that kind of stuff; you'd need pripyat-like environment with lots of tight exteriors with covers, snaking interiors, multistory structures, etc.
I guess there's one thing that makes CS less fun for singleplayer people: There's a lot more human npcs which makes things more political. The one map with tons of animals running around, Wild territory, doesn't come back in CS. So I don't know. I enjoyed WT, hope there's a replacement.
