At least they bothered to tell you on the cover.

I did like the tweaking you could do on your armour and weapons though I wish they'd given more information on what each one did. It wasn't immediately obvious (To me, at least) what 'Flatness' did and it forgot to tell me that adding kevlar plates would make my armour heavier (Though it seems obvious in retrospect, it would have been nice to have been explicitly told beforehand and how much extra weight it would add).
As for the MG on the Cordon check point, there is an easy way around it: Just turn around and go back to the swamp and take the northern exit to Cordon. You'll have to dodge the Stalkers at the fallen bridge (They're neutral, but turn hostile if you try to cross without word from Sidorovich) but they're far easier to avoid than that damn gun.

Pfft, the MG was easy, i only got hit once. By the way, I heard that there's a Vintorez lying zomewhere around the floor of a house in cordon. Anyone want to spill the beans on It's location?

I got this game today... and spent about 8 hours straight palying it  It is AWESOME! Artifacts are so rare that I didn't get even one until like 7 hours into the game. Every gun has been updated, every area looks awesome, AA works, graphics are great, It only crashed once on me, and that was when I hit reload a bunch of times.
This game is superbe and the reviews are decieving and unrepresentative of the game itself. Just about everything that people were worrying about hasn't occurred. I say a GREAT successor to the previous and I shame the poor reviews of this game, because they're used to their gay run and gun same old crap and squash unique interesting games like this.

Been playing it most of today, up to Garbage, not sure I'm going to press on much further since the next patch will wipe my saves. Overall it seems to be a mixed bag. The new graphical features I can get working look great, combat against humans is more interesting now, but there's way too much of it. Scavaging for artifacts is really cool, makes me feel like a stalker as portrayed in Roadside Picnic, however it seems like that element is in the wrong game. Would have worked far better in SoC, with its more focus on exploration, just random stalking, etc. Definitely the atmosphere has been toned way down. Walking around at night in the swamps and such is still frightening as you can't see where you're going and hear grunting of animals, but... well for instance the kind of lonely desolate feeling you get from visiting that farm in Cordon, that's all rotted out, maybe a couple mutants calling it home, perhaps a couple stalkers huddling near a fire, now it's a full fortified base, down the road from two or three other fully fortified bases, there are way way too many people.
Overall though I'm having a good time, actually my biggest nitpick so far is that in Garbage (haven't checked in other places yet) the sun rises in the west. Considering how pretty and noticable a sunrise is now this is a big immersion killer, as it should have been possible to tell what time of the day it was just by looking at the position of the sun. Easily fixable and just seems kinda sloppy.

How does the game run under DX10 with all the effects turned on? Is it playable, and if so, on what sort of machines?
Have any of you found any good benchmarks of the game?

It runs great for me in DX10 with everything maxed out, but I have a high end machine, so probably my experience isn't very useful to you.
My specs: Core 2 Quad Q9550, 4GB DDR3 1333, 1GB GTX280

Thanks for your reply. I hope you don't mind that I'd like to dismember you and steal your rig. :ebil:

Well, I waited until near the release of CS to buy a new machine, so that I could be sure I could run the game flawlessly :)
