Here they come.
The RPS gang (well, two of them) have published their, quite critical, reviews (to accusations of collusion because they all live in the same house or town or something). They're mostly saying a list of irritations followed by 'looks great'.
(
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2008/09/02/eurogamer-stalker-clear-sky-review/) Have a read.
(I'm not too worried. I found Stalker mercilessly hard at first, but it had other things to keep me going. Then I got the hang of it. And then I got mods to make it even harder. Hard to tell if those good things are there still or not from those reviews)

Thanks, but pass.
I'm just gonna play Clear Sky when I do and judge for myself. No other opinion matters.

Sounds horrible. Less atmosphere, most constant fighting - bugger that. Atmosphere and level design was something the original game had in spades and I was hoping for more of, not the drudgery of fighting through hoardes and hoardes of irrelevant enemies.

Sadly, but it's true. Be ready for serious disappointment guys, I already readied myself :) But even in this form it still should better for me than 99% of other games I guess. And then mods should improve it.
According to (
http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/942067.asp) gamerankings.com it currently has average rating of 78%, from 68% to 90%, not bad. If it was hyped up they would probably gave it 10% more :)

it's still a matter of taste. I mean everyone feels different when playing a game, so if for msot the atmosphere is different for another it could be something else that bothers him. I might sound naive, but I'm really a skeptic; skeptic about the reviews.

i remember when SOC came out the trolls, whiners and fanboys flooded the gsc-boards and made the experience bad for everybody. once the dust settled, the first proper patch was out (1.00001) and some modders started tweaking the first annoying things all was good and ppl could start to concentrate on the game itself, not the hype or misleading feature list.
since it's a buggy release again I won't bother installing the russian one and wait a few weeks before judging for myself.
I don't have that much hope GSC changed their work ethics or way of communicating with their fanbase (none) so I won't expect any changes I am already used to by Mods but again a skeletal base of a game where you have to make your own adventure in there. and if that's not possible (this prequel will surely be more linear) I'll wait for mods again.
even if CS fails completely it will still be the foundation for others to put all SOC and CS maps together to create the biggest zone there ever was :)

I think I'll wait for a patch or two and perhaps a few gameplay mods. Just like the first Stalker game :D

So essentially the game required patching and modding before "all was good" yet everyone with problems were "trolls" or "whiners"? Good logic.

Patching - yes, modding - no.

well, the whiners and trolls made it looks like features they wanted to have were promised to be in the game although GSC already told them what is in and what not. so they tried to convince other players that the game is not working although the thing was that it was missing features they expected. of course, apart from that many ppl had problems with performance and questbugs, I don't want to deny that and that was a very bad move by gsc, but once the dust settled the all-too-negative threads gave way to more objective critisism and the working parts of the game which were topnotch. the modders managed to convince the last whiners by giving them features GSC did not implement or release.
right now GSC told everybody it's a faction war, a more linear story, less maps and more emphasis on combat than lonely stalking. now the game is out, it's cheaper, shorter and differently balanced and envisioned and everybody complains.
that's what I meant with trolls and whiners. Not some guy posting a bug.
of course it's legitimate to say that GSC made a buggy game but to be honest, I never doubted there will be a day 1 patch for clear sky as well.
