Everyone's happier.
Only GSC has to self-fund themselves this time ;)

Well I am still crawling through STALKER but it's problems are quite obvious now, so when I heard about the prequel I was quite nicely surprised because the devs apparently noticed they did several things wrong which is a step in the right direction.
There is one thing that buggers me hovewer, and that's I didn't hear a word about it till I visited this board. Now I am not exactly in the loop when it comes to videogames as I don't buy gaming mags or visit gaming portals, but general 'hits' usually get through to me through various boards so it's weird I didn't know about Clear Sky's existence till pretty much now.
I never saw Clear Sky on the cover of any gaming mag, I never saw a single screenshot of it, and- well gametrailers does have few movies, but ironically none of them are actual trailers.
With a release date of about three months(If it will be kept that is) you'd think we started hearing about the game. Press releases, some features in mags, a trailer or two. Part of me is happy it's not hyped like the original game which backfired right in it's face, but no hype at all is as bad as it simply means no sales.

Isn't it the publisher that usually take cares of the press deals and the hype ? GSC probably just don't have the time and money to take care of that kind of stuff.

Lack of hype is gonna hurt the sales badly. :erg:

Kind of. In a way they are lucky, because SoC JUST came out. It's rolling on the wind of being on a few "best of the year" lists, and since this is essentially the same thing but more polished it can kind of just ride that hype. It just needs a real basic "Prequel to S.T.A.L.K.E.R." ad campaign and a couple favourable reviews and it should hopefully be able to do alright.

Need a help with the Russian article.
(
http://stalker-portal.ru/forums.php?m=posts&q=8091&d=1170)
Basically I
guess it's the same article as above but someone at GSC forums translated it by some online translator as far as I understand. Can someone confirm whether this info is correctly translated? (well, some parts are obviously correct so ignore them)
Here're the translated tidbits found on GSC forum:
Bandits are a playable faction, military is not
You can gain influence and power in a faction but can never be the leader of a faction
It is possible to switch between factions but not be in multiple factions simultaneously
There will be night spesific monsters that only apear at night and are damaged by light
Anomolies are invisible and can only be detected by a detector or a bolt
There will be anomalous fields where you need a detector and good armor to enter and find valuable artifacts
Tasks can be given by any stalker not just designated ones like in SHOC "NPC can describe to you about that flowing purposes and the tasks, which interest its group, and if one considers that war it is clan it goes completely under control of the system of the simulation of life, then the number of possible situations and tasks is practically unlimited"
They introduced many new unique and interesting objects, weapons and suites as rewards and such
You can ask stalkers to help you in your adventures? (translated using online translator)
Fast travel is not instant transportation but they reveal shorter paths through the zone that cannot normally be accessed; first you must find a guide, convince him to guide you (money helps) (its not compulsory, so they may say 'no')
New indoor levels and underground levels
Each camp has a trader that can repair and upgrade weapons and suites: upgrade rate of fire and burn protection and stuff like that
I'm especially interested in the part talking about dynamic quests and Guides (I'm confused, earlier they said Guides act like teleporters).

Looks precisely like what 242 kindly translated from russian for us. See his post above.

Yes, I think it's the same article.
Vicarious on 17/1/2008 at 12:03
Yeah, I suspected it. I was just wondering if this translation is quite precise, cause there were tidbits that weren't in 242s translation, like a part about Guides not acting like teleporters.
242 on 17/1/2008 at 13:16
The guides will act as teleporters, but not in a sense of, say, Oblivion's teleporters, firstly player needs to a) find a guide b) meet needed requirements; no "click on a point on the map and you're there". Fast travels will be quite costly I guess, so you may want to prefer and use good old sprint in many cases even when a guide is close at hand ;) But in majority of cases they won't, because there will be a few of them.
