From what I've read, mods need to remove some NPCs and add more mutants.

Rage.

Sounds like I might have to wait a couple of patches before I install this one too. Oh well.
It could turn out well in a way; I've heard from a few COD4 types that more combat would have been right up their street. They'd probably like it this way.
I'm not so sure that's "Stalker" though. From memory the original game suffered from too many respawning bandits to start with too, so we'll see.

Allegedly they've put much more effort into betatesting this time, so I guess the first play should be more enjoyable than SoC.

Don't you guys remember how little monsters there were in the first one? I think I saw maybe 2 bloodsuckers my first time through, maybe 5 in the whole game. Then there was maybe 20 overall other monsters scaterred about. *Not counting those dogs
Either way, if the game is boom or bust it will still kick some butt! :) Because I can't imagine it not being enjoyingable even if it has a lot of harsh edges like SoC did, and then later after I've had my fill, mods will come out and make me fall in love with it again and again :D

It seems you are wrong. LOTS of bugs are reported, many people are annoyed. Some said bugs were very rare though. I feel CS will be without doubt interesting for those who played and liked SoC, but I don't know how it will be accepted by people who didn't play original. It seems CS is more like official global mod, it's shorter than original, more linear, and much more action-oriented. But includes many new and interesting features. I haven't played the game yet though.

Then you didn't visit Wild Territory after X16, did you? :p Actually, there were quite a few monsters in SoC, and they were dangerous. In CS you practically don't encounter monsters at all, and they are weak, instead there are tons of people.

Oh i forgot about the zombie, rhino like things and the things you get the eyes from:
I ended up classifying zombies as humans, rhinos and eye things as animals :P

Right now I can't imagine what "more action-oriented" is supposed to mean as I spent 93% of SoC time carrying a gun.

It means that basically every map is packed with lots of people who are constantly fighting, and you will be one of them :)

Oh well. Survivalist wet dreams about vacant dreadful zone are totally gone. Hopefully the faction wars will have some appeal.
Actually it wouldn't be so incredibly difficult to make such survivalist mod, no? Rare and expensive weapons, ammo and stuff, minimum human spawns, but at the same time deadly encounters. Why nobody attempted to make such thing?
