North American/ Euro version of CS has Tages, but no activation.
The Steam version has limited activations (and probably SecuROM, as Tages does not have an activation based product, unless Steam itself does the activation monitoring)
The Russkie version has Starforce and activation.
The Euro version of SoC does have some mild copy protection as I need the DVD in to play, the NA version had none and the Russkie version had Starforce again, IIRC.

Only Starforce, no activation.

I stand corrected. Someone on another forum said their CIS version of CS needed to dial home occasionally for verification.

DRM = Digital Rights Management = copy protection
Excessive DRM = Excessive Digital Rights Management = excessive copy protection.
CD in tray is DRM. Non-steam versions of CS have DRM, it's just a cd-check, though. Steam IS DRM. Steam version also has extra DRM measures to the tune of limited activations, which appear very draconian/excessive/anti-customer.

After installing the lastest patch I went and took out the Bandit HQ. The reward has been
greatly increased (My jaw hit the floor when I saw what I was given), but not 5 minutes later I was told the Bandits had returned. However, not a single one was anywhere to be seen. I search the the depot from top to bottom but none where there. It seems that when you take out a faction's HQ they're gone for good but it's slightly bugged.
Oh hum, another patch needed. :erg:
Also, since when did the Vintar BC do less damage than the PMm?
Yeah it sounds like a lot of people were complaining about not being able to make any money so they juiced up the rewards for a lot of stuff. :erg:

You're not kidding. I just did the Capture the bridge to Limansk mission and my reward from Clear Sky was 50k and a FT 200M. I don't recall having much trouble earning money before, but some of the quest returns were feeble (Take out a faction HQ for example) but it seems that GSC has gone to the other extreme. :erg:

Heh. You missed part of the reward. You also get a gravi for that mission.

I beat the game running the .04 patch, I'll probably go play it through again with the new patch and see just how easy it is now that they apparently throw money and guns at you.
