Bandages seems bugged too, they don't stop the bleeding at all for me.
No, they are fine. The more you bleed the more bandages you need to stop it, sometimes 2 or 3, it just works differently than it was in SoC where 1 bandage was enough in all cases. But better get yourself an anti-bleeding artifact ASAP.

Weapons are just silly, 8 headshots with the pistol doesnt do shit (pretty close range).
If a pistol killed instantly, there wouldn't be a need to have other weapons and ammo in the game, except maybe a sniper rifle. It's a game convention.

After many attempts I got past it with the help of 4 medkits and a now-sweaty X button.
I think it was designed specifically to be nearly impossible to pass there.
Devs wanted player to stop his/her fruitless attempts, look at the map, and find another way to Cordon ;)

242, it could have been balanced some other way, e.g much harder to find bullets for it or whatever. So annoying...
I think i used up 6 bandages the last time and it didnt help at all from what i noticed, made me believe it was broken.
I'll probably get into it, eventually.. i really hated STALKER for a reason the first time i tried it, i'm probably just going through that again ;)

I restarted once already, 2nd time I was kicking ass!
You just gotta upgrade, the lowest shitty gun will whop ass if you put a few ruble into it. The SMG for example, works through out Swamp at very respectable range with upgrades. Ditch it when you get to Cordon, won't work on armored targets at a distance. But by then I had a scoped & fully upgraded AK ready to go.
Also the machine gun nest is easy to dodge if you know where to run. I ran it the 2nd time with no health loss. I guess singleplayer games are just easy for me, figure out a solid pattern and it'll work every time, unlike multi.

I would definitely have stopped trying to get past if I hadn't spotted that hole in the left fence.
Oh, and I did manage to kill a military dude from a medium distance with my little pistol. But it did take 5 or 6 direct hits, many of them must have hit the head.
