As tempting as it is to drink deeply of the blood in the water and go into STITCH ATTACK MODE (as everything you've said so far in this thread betrays a ridiculously immature and narrow musical perspective) I will instead give you the well-meant advice to observe more than you post until you get a better idea what kind of party you've stumbled into during your quest to shamelessly promote your band.
Nice, you guys sure know how to make someone feel welcome. Starts a thread about music and gets spanked for grammar, and then called immature and narrow just because he has a different taste :tsktsk:
Where did he promote his band? Didn't see any links...

My problem with "classic rock" is that it seems hopelessly old-fashioned and conservative in sound, and in some cases very smug and not willing to take risks. As pure entertainment it serves a purpose (even I'll cop to listening to Fleetwood Mac), my problem is the people who try to elevate it to another level, or who seem to see it as some sort of religious thing. Maybe it was the wildest thing back then (and even that's a doubtful assumption... some of the "krautrock" or whatever you want to call it was much more sonically wild then most rock of that period) , but it's been surpassed since. Noid's right about something for once: anyone who claims that classic rock is the wildest thing there is are most likely unaware of, for lack of a better term, the alternative, or perhaps just experimental music in general. Or perhaps my problems with classic rock stem from the fact that there's more often then not very little electronics employed. Or maybe it's the whole elitist masculine attitude of the classic rock fans I can't stomach: "I don't listen to that rap music or mainstream pop or that gay disco crap... I just listen to hard rock [cause I'm a man!]"
But, fuck's sake, I also can't stand these faux-bohemian dilettantes who smoke pot, listen to nothing but Pink Floyd, and go on and on about how groovy world music or free jazz is. They're equally repellent and one can usually find them hanging around Starbucks.

Classic rock never died, and it is making a comeback - everytime I go to the record store, it isn't old folks I'm seeing buying up Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, etc. LPs, its kids about my age or younger.
This is what's known as a PHASE. I'm pretty sure just about every kid hears that their dad went to a Zeppelin show back in the day and so you're all HOLY SHIT DAD LOOK I BOUGHT A ZEPPELIN record and then he can reminisce (blarhg) and you can be like HEY DAD NOW WE FINALLY HAVE SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT. When really, you just go upstairs to listen to your record and you're like holy shit this is stairway to heaven. Then you go online to LOOK UP A TAB and be like HEY GRANDMA I CAN PLAY STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN.
And then one day you hear godspeed you black emperor and it's all over.
-the end

If only that were true! I called his musical persepctive narrow and immature, not
him personally, and it had fuck all to do with different taste and everything to do with, well, a narrow and immature musical perspective.
To wit:

Classic Rock is the widest genre - its crap like punk (the Clash not included in that statement, as they are cool), and rap that are boring and formulaic.
Quote Posted by HeavyJack
Rap and punk both have their good points (mainly the originaters of each genre - and as for now, you have to look past the mainstream like with any other genre to get to the good stuff)
Quote Posted by HeavyJack
Rock and roll is about having the right to make a statement, the right to showcase artistic integrity, and the right to fuckin do whatever you want.
(^^^^^this one being my personal favorite)

There is some classic rap that I don't mind though, it has its own personality - I agree having no instruments is bogus, but it doesn't bug me like the crap in the mainstream today.

Idiot child. You would have had a GREAT time at an Elton John show if you were just able to take your head out of the oven long enough to admit that good choons is good choons and a talented showman is the only reason you need to enjoy yourself.

but nooooooooo we have to listen to prattling on about studio masturbation exercises involving mutliple tracks of OMG TAPE EFFECTS and radioheads and bored of canada and fucking MOBY

Awwww, it just that I think that everyone who takes on the honorable quest of bashing rap is a knight in the order of the holy good taste ;)

Oh Geebs, I can still send you the ticket! I suppose you're right but two things:
a) Elton John is a homosexual and I don't concern myself with anything homosexual
b) Moby? SINCE WHEN HAVE I EVER SAID I LIKED FUCKING MOBY

I think I've used up my quota of starting music threads, so I'm going to hijack this one instead.
I just bought a nice new set of monitors, that, while certainly far beneath the best of what's available to those with disposable income, sound LOADS better than most computer speakers. I'm hearing details I've never noticed in albums I've heard dozens of times before.
My request is for albums that you all think sound really good, as in, something that'll put the speakers through thier paces. MMW's End of the World Party and Tosca's j.a.c. are both good examples.
Noid, I know you couldn't hate me anymore than you already do, but surely you know of some fantastically produced/mastered/etc albums. I don't care what kind of music it is. If you know of a great-sounding throat-singing album, I want to hear it.
