I signed up a few days ago, and I was looking forward to posting here - but my last account was banned with no warning or reason (I had one post), but I am joining back up. I think I know what I did last time (I posted my bands site to get your guys feedback on it), so I figure as long as I don't do that I should be safe... hopefully?
Anyways, I was wondering if there are any fans of classic rock music on these forums? I am a huge fan of the wide genre, and I always love discussing it - everything from AC/DC to Frank Zappa fits under the genre, so there is always room for good unique discussion.
I look forward to getting to know everybody on here,
Cheers,
Adam Falk

If I recall correctly, your first post was very bot looking, like it was automatically generated to sell something, "hey guys check out this site", but I can see how that was unintentional.
I think you've made a better decision announcing yourself in more proper "hi, I'm new" form, better in that you won't get banned and may only have to endure a little knee-jerk newbie harassment...
The classical rock that I like best is something that feels like it was breaking musical boundaries without being so experimental as to be alienating, so like Jimi Hendrix and Led Zepplin, maybe Bob Dylan on his good days. I always got the impression they were trying to push the whole genre to a new, higher level, and (what's great about it) it still makes that kind of impression even decades later.

"Classic Rock" is something you listen to drunk, otherwise, it's pretty boring, formulaic shit. God, I hate AC/DC.

Classic rock was great. Everything today* sucks.
*By that I mean everything around years ago when I stopped listening to the radio and had an inkling of what was current.

The Clash.
..oh and Hendrix and Neil Young.
AC/DC are/were/will always be just awful.

I've never liked AC/DC myself, but I like alot of classic rock. To say "everything today sucks" is of course stupid, granted the nature of the music industry promotes cookiecutter shit and pop sluts, but to pretend that good music cant be made at all is dumb. I can only think of a few bands that I actually like that still make music but im sure they're out there somewhere.

Ah, that makes more sense now - yeah when I wrote that post I had to go to bed to get up for work, so I just made a quick post. :)
*to the statement in bold*
Thats definately part of the problem with Zappa (who's music I absolutely love), is that lots of it is alienating because of the bizarreness of it - it works that way for a lot of jazz-influenced prog-rockers though.
Jimi Hendrix, Zeppelin, and Dylan (especially Dylan with The Band) are three of my favorite artists/groups - I still think the best period for Jimi was when he was with The Band of Gypsies.

since when is Jimi Hendrix formulaic, since when is Rush formulaic, since when is Frank Zappa formulaic - Classic Rock is the widest genre - its crap like punk (the Clash not included in that statement, as they are cool), and rap that are boring and formulaic.
And sure AC/DC does have a signature sound - but its a sound I'd take over anything coming out today - and back when they first came out and Bon Scott was in the band, there wasn't a hard-rock/blues act around that could touch them.

All you ACDC hating motherfuckers have obviously never seen them live.
They begin a song and you say OH HOLKY FUCK THIS IS MY FAVOURITE ACDC SONG EVER! and then big rockstar ending and then they start the next song and you're like OH HOLY FUCK THIS IS MY FAVOURITE ACDC SONG EVER and then big rockstar ending and then OH SNAP I LOVE THIS SONG THIS IS MY FAVOURITE ACDC SONG EVER AND PLUS HOLY FUCK WHAT HAVE THEY BROUGHT ON STAGE NOW and then more of your favourite songs ever and then Angus does something that utterly typifies live rock music and then and then and then it is the best show ever.

no doubt!!! - they are definately one of the greatest live acts of all time - have you got the Family Jewels dvd set? Or the album "If You Want Blood" (possibly one of the greatest live albums ever put to tape).

Noid, brother, you feeling OK?
I've listened to your stuff (Mira, Arturus, etc) and liked it. I name it "well done" and can appreciate what's there and why. I would not
think to call it boring or formulaic, but it's not neccessarily what I would produce myself.
But I'm not quite clear on what would bring you, as an artist, to make such a broad sweeping statement as the one above.
The best musicians I've known tend to accept most forms of music as not only valid but often worth pulling creative ideas and "inspiration" from. And they can usually appreciate where it comes from and its purpose.
Every musician I know is, in one way or another, a product of the music that came before... including Classic Rock, Jazz, Big Band, Classical, Early Rap, Metal, Industrial, Folk, "Country and Western", etc.
(BTW - All of the above musical styles, as well as all "current" styles, can have formulae they tend to follow, and many examples of every one of them can be pretty damned boring)
I've been playing piano and keyboards as long as I can remember, and programming synthesizers and samplers, and recording for 25 years. It was always a blast to get the chance to work on projects in different genres than I'm used to... there's always something to learn from each.
And as far as AC/DC goes, the
second most purely fun gig I can think of is playing guitar in a "classic rock" band; including AC/DC. I think I can play rhythm guitar well enough for AC/DC. :)
The
first would be just sitting in on piano playing all kinds of good old rock and roll.
I don't mean to sound like I know it all (I sure as hell don't), but, for a musician, categorizing "Classic Rock" as shit is a bit childish and harsh.
@TheGreatGodPan
"Everything" today certainly does not suck.
Much does... but that's the way it has always been and always will be.
@GBM
Ha! Your description is dead on for a lot of "classic rock" bands... but most don't wear school uniforms.
